Can some one refresh me as to what was maximum safe press for an encore or any other break open

The frames are rated up to 300 win mag pressures at least. As far as conversions go some people stay around 40,000 psi but personally I'm comfortable with higher pressure in my 358 and around 50k psi would be my limit.

How can a person get test loads tested for pressure?

60,000 PSI in a 300 win mag barrel is totally different than 60,000 psi in a 45/70 barrel, so don't get confused about pressure ratings. The frame might handle if with no problem but the thin wall 45/70 barrel probably not..

Good point about the chamber wall thickness and its effect of maximum chamber pressure. I bought a 444 Marlin CVA Stalker and am converting it. It has a slightly thicker chamber than a 45-70 chamber. I'm trying to estimate the maximum safe pressure/load using H4198 powder and a 265 grain Honardy FTX bullet.
How is the chamber pressure tested?
My hottest load on a similar 44 caliber build has been 57 grains that shoots around 2,600 FPS.
I'm anxiously looking forward to Jeff's "blow em up" tests to see how much powder can be used before the barrel is damaged.
