Here again as can be seen....................It was the barrel that blew up! Not the action or the breech plug being blown out. I was fortunate I had plenty of steel over the point my barrel bulged If it was 1.2".........who knows? And those skinny ass break op barrels..............NOT for me! My next barrel will be like droptine's ..........1.250 for 8". It looks to me that the beginning of the split in the barrel is right where the taper starts from 5" to the muzzle....With the new load of 90-95gns of 3031 and a powder column longer than what we have shot in the past with other powders,8" of shank ain't a bad idea since a double load would be "encased"..... What load did the shooter double...? And what would be the subsequent powder column length...?

I have a HandiRifle: it's relagated to saboted loads only - 10/50 4759/H-4198 195Bs and occasionally 30-33g VV-110. For 10 year old grandson - 30g VV-110/175 Red Hots(175 Barnes - no longer produced). After they're gone, 165 CEBs. Back in 2000, I had a module in a 10ML explode with a fair amount of Ltl Gun in it. I was injured. Safety concerns go up dramatically after such an experience.

I am going to do a custom barrel on the Apex soon and the shank will be as big as I can get to fit, not that I will shoot full power loads but the extra insurance will be nice. I think I can get a 1.170 to work but it will take some doing, time will tell.
blow ups are never good, I'm just glad it was not more serious. 6 hrs of surgery is bad enough but we all know what could have happened.

Good luck with it Bill. I'm with you on that one, I shoot a TC Encore conversion and would not what the even think about the ramifications from such a mistake. Hope all is well. Safety First. !!!

That is one costly mistake. Thank God he's alright and will be on the mend from the looks of the damage he is a very lucky person. As for witness marks I have been guilty of that especially when testing different bullets, Since reading about all the mistakes made I now use electrical tape until I find a load my gun likes then I do a permanent witness mark.
