I'm going to be sighting in my Hankins converted CVA Apex 45-70. It has the 25" Bergara barrel now with HIS LRMP system. I'm going to be shooting .45 cal. 250 gr FTX bullets in front of a charge of 55 grains of IMR4198. The potential maximum distance for shooting a deer is 250 to 300yards. Can anyone help me with a suggested sight-in point of impact at 100 yards and based on that, advise me of hold-over distance for 200, 250 and maybe 300 yards? Thank you.

Are you saying you can not practice at 250-300 yards but are willing to take a shot on an animal if you know the trajectory?

You should put a scope on it that has a BDC reticle that way you can zero at 100 and then shoot at the other distances to see where each of the hash marks hit at 200 and 300 yds.

It's a 12-16" kill zone. If I know max Point blank range and the shot is Within my comfort zone, under ideal conditions, KaBoom. 😀

I have experimented with the 250 FTX however was unable to shoot them consistently, best performance out of my TC Encore Bergara barrel conversion is with a Pittman 275 Accumax. Pittman 275 Accumax, 55 grains IMR 4198 @ approximately 2500 FPS. I am sighted in 2" high @ 100 yards , 0 @ 150 yards & -1" @ 208 yards Hope this helps, good luck. Construction paper shows a aiming point at the lower orange dot and a hit on the top (#3) dot after 2 scope (#1 & #2) adjustments.

Thank you for the information guys. I'll be going to the range this weekend and will be shooting at 100 and 200 yards. Unlike some who have the fortunate opportunity to shoot at any selected long range distance, I do not. I do; however, always try to minimize my shot distance when hunting and shoot within my limits based on conditions and rifle rest rigidity.

I may have to revisit the 250 FTX if you have good results.
