Just got back form hunting on the Eastern Shore . It is still muzzleloader season I had my old reliable 45 M/L loaded with 300gr Pittman's this time. This is a freshly cut bean field. It 385 yards to the back corner and then to the far right it goes around the woods and it can go out to well over 800 yards. The rut was in full force this week. Three of my club members killed good bucks the biggest being a 10 point which is pushing 150 inches and two other solid 8 pts. I saw at least 15 different bucks between this hunting spot and another one I go to. A lot of good 8pts that need another year or two to grow. I did see one shooter in this field that caught me off guard and he only gave me a long running shot so I passed.
This is one of the portable shooting benches I make. I use a double locking tripod and machine a center hub so you can mount the top to it. The top rotates 360 degree's. I used .250 wall 2x6 rectangular aluminum for the top. The front hand wheel and hub are machined and have a large needle thrust brg.The rear reast is fully adjustable from side to side and up and down. It is rock steady. I also use it in Pa when I long range hunt . The whole rig weighs less than 25 lbs

From what I am learning there is some great hunting to be had right on the Maryland Virginia line in Maryland . 15,000 acres of public hunting with a ton of easy access. Pocomoke State Forest ground. Very liberal bag limits and non resident lic. is reasonable cheaper than Virginia. I got a map of all the areas so I will take a look at it on satellite.

No I left the crossbow at home. Next trip down I think I will take it along the rut will be over and the hunting will change. I like to use my muzzleloader the most. Rifle starts on the 19th but I usually still use the muzzleloader. We lost to really long fields there full of Solar panels and it will only get worse. The farmers are getting paid $750.00 a acre and don't have to leave the house that's more than they can get for busting the butt all year and loosing out on crops. But it hurts are hunting. No feed for the deer and high deer fences suck.

I posted that I use a 2x6 inch rectangular aluminum top that's not correct it is .250 thick by 2x4 inches I had a 2x6 top but it was not any more stable then the 2x4 and it added more weight so I stayed with the lighter top. .125 wall would not give you enough metal to tap into so that is why I used the heavier wall. This bench has a lot of bells and whistles that you don't need for regular hunting. The front stem is really long because here in the mountains of Pa. we shoot on some really steep mountain sides for regular hunting a real long stem is not needed.
Protektor wanted to have this shooting bench built but we couldn't get anyone local or crazy enough to want to build it in the numbers Protektor needed. They said they had a lot of interest from the prairie dog hunters. It would make a heck of a shooting bench for that purpose. I shoot a 17lb gun off it with no problems. You also have to factor in how much body weight a person is also going to applied to it when they shoot from it. That is one reason why I use a heavy duty double locking tripod and I add heavy duty safety chains to the legs so they can't slip out. Once you sink the leg spikes into the ground it is very stable.

I know it wasn't one of mine because I don't build them to ship around the country same goes for my rifle rests for 1,000 yard competition.
