Hi Guys! I'm new to the smokeless world and could use some humble advice. When testing bullets for accuracy, how often should I be cleaning the barrel? Any advice is greatly appreciated! I'm shooting the 275 and 300 Pittman bullets in a 45 built by Jeff. Thanks!

With most smokeless rifle, they seem to shoot better once the barrels are fouled. I usually clean mine about once a year, may be sooner if I am going to store it for a while. My point of impact with a clean barrel is close to the same as with a fouled barrel, but the groups get a lot better after a few shoots.

Take the plug out and clean it really good every 40 to 50 shots to keep the flame channel consistent. As long as your powder is non corrosive I'd say keep the bore fouled. Use grease sparingly on the plug on reassembly.

Just a suggestion.............if you leave the gun fouled for a day or two and then go back to using it, you will find the first bullet will seem to go down a little harder and feel like it is scratching as it goes down. Seems that what ever residue left in the barrel gets "a little hard or crusted?". I suggest maybe pushing down a dry patch to clear it before loading.

I suggest maybe pushing down a dry patch to clear it before loading. ......or a nylon bore brush. That works well for my ML's.

As Richard mentioned, I to run a dry patch periodically to keep build up down.
Good luck
