So, a week later and Deep Purple lost 3 ½” from the breech end. End to end it measures right at 25 7/8 so I will call it 26”. The actual bulge is right about at the mouth of the breech plug. The gun loads normally with no looseness all the way down. You might say I have a “powder chamber” now. After putting it all back together my first shot was only 1 ½ “ form POA or basically right back where it was last week before the “incident!” All loads shot today (with both guns) were with the 6/65.8---Clays/H-4198 duplex. The first group with the 300 FTX stayed under MOA at .970 for five shots. The load averaged 2738 fps with a 16 fps ES. This is right around 60 fps lower than the exact same load I shot last week at 2804 with the barrel at 29 ½”. Next I dialed the Sightron up 5 MOA and went out to 300 yards where it put five shot under MOA @ 2.730”. Av. vel. at 2747 with 22 fps ES For the third group I went with Kyle’s 300 gr. AccuMaxx and it drilled three shots in .792” with an average of 2748 fps and a 4 fps ES. Needless to say, the lack of 3.5” of barrel has not affected the accuracy. Next I went back to the “old” 209 Brux. Last week I was having trouble with the 300 SST type blems shooting lousy with no wads so this week, I added a wad and they still shot lousy?...........First bullet close to POA, second bullet 5” high? Third bullet next to bullet #1. Fourth bullet back up next to #2? Baffled. VELOCITY GOOD AND ES LOW? Like last week thinking thee was a scope or other problem I shot three of Kyle’s bullets and they grouped under ½”……..So………….I loaded up and shot three 290 gr. Barnes TEZ’s. Av. vel. 2760 with an 11 fps ES and a .572” group! Hmmmmmmmmmmm! Last group was shot with the 300 gr. lowly XTP at an av. vel. of 2743 fps with a 5 fps ES and a .362” group! So now, I have to figure out why these Blems will not shoot straight? No problem with ignition, velocity or ES’s? The “saga” continues…………….Next week! I will see if they shoot in Deep Purple? i.imgsafe.org/92bbd50935.jpgi.imgsafe.org/92bba73715.jpg

Good report Richard. Makes me wonder why you had the barrel that long in the first place. As it turns out it was a good thing, as you were able to salvage that barrel.

Good report Richard. Makes me wonder why you had the barrel that long in the first place. As it turns out it was a good thing, as you were able to salvage that barrel. Benchresters always like to start out long and cut off as needed..... this time it proved very beneficial to Richard as it saved him from having to buy another Brux barrel... Glad it all worked out for you Richard... looks like you're back on track...

If by chance another incident should occur has the barrel in that area been compromised such that it could separate if there were a next time? Only inquiring.

The tips look white or very light grey Jerry! Those were the cheaper ones that were clearanced. I have some of them but have been shooting some clearanced ones with a colored tip. I will try some of the clear ones next time at the range. Might even cut some to see if there are any voids.
