Went shooting this morning all started well 5 shot 1" groups at 100 not great but I am not the greatest shot in the world Then a patch got stuck so I put on the worm to retrieve the patch after doing so I loaded up and shot all over the place upon leaving the range while packing up I removed the patch from the worm and I noticed one of the wires was missing When I got home I removed the breech plug I tried the drill by hand and I had a time getting the carbon out really had an unusual amount of crude It was cleaned the night before I did fire several primers to make sure all the oil was out before shooting then after 10-15 shots Accuracy went south I cleaned the barrel very well and the patches went form muzzle to breech and from breech to muzzle just as smooth as they always did I don't have access to a bore scope but with the naked eye I could see nothing different about the rifling I checked my DNZ mounts and they were very tight So I removed the scope and replaced it I am going back to the range tomorrow and shoot it if it still shoots bad my suspicions may be right and within a week of the shotgun season I always use my ML'er I usually put a patch on the jag and fire primers to make sure I am getting a good burn could this cause the crud in the breech plug more than just firing primers w/o a patch Lou

Did the wire get into the vent hole? Maybe that was why it was hard to clean?

Lou...........I had problems with my 209 gun and a particular bullet that would be all over the place. Then I switched to a AccuMax and also a TEZ and the accuracy came back to normal. I also was checking mounts and other things to no avail. It was the bullet!

My main hunting rifle has had similar issues lately and I think it is because my bushing has opened too much. My normal round went from shooting around an inch to shooting 3+inch patterns. Nothing changed in my powder, primers, sabots, bullet... nothing. I think I am at about 300 rounds on that bushing now and to be honest it looks bigger though I cant find my torch cleaners to test that.
Anyway I checked all my bolts and mount for tightness and was considering that my scope went belly up. Frustration set in but... Before you get too worried about that worm wire ruining your barrel please try some different bullets. I was scratching my head and getting upset but had some 275gr MH bullets around. Loaded them up and they instantly shot very well. My gut is still telling me I need a new bushing but I plan to get through the season with the MH bullets and re-group after that.
Some additional feel good info. While it may be possible your patch worm ruined your barrel I would very highly doubt that it did. I have seen some really ugly bores and crowns shoot very well. My guess is there is something other than a barrel bore issue causing your greif.

Hope you get your rifle straightened around soon.Nothing more frustrating than trouble shooting an accuracy problem.

Are primers leaking? What size is bushing now? My opinion is bushing is eroded to over .040 and primer leaking. Repace bushing breech plug is fine

Well my worst fear came to be the barrel is ruined it shot all over the 15" target today even with the new breech plug and the new tungsten carbide 031 bushing in it I know it's not me as my Rem UML shot a 1" group at one hundred and a 2" group at 200 so looks as though I have to hunt with my Rem on the 11th Well no sense in worrying over it I believe everything in life happens for a reason what it is I will never know But if it's his will I accept it. Sorry to hear about the barrel.Hope bestill can find a fix for you without having to replace the barrel. When I lose a patch in the bore I use a nylon 7mm bore brush and twist it a little to grab the patch,it has always worked for me.
