About a month ago my boy and I were sighting in our sml and the very first shot my boy did he didn't get the bullet all the way down on charge. Lucky he only bugled barrel but the barrel is toast. He did this on a cva optima elite 45/70 slufoot conversion. We shot it about 2 more times because I remembered a small loose spot in barrel before but nothing like it is now. I told him to put it up cause I knew something was wrong. The first inspection I didn't see or feel anything but after talking to Zen about it a couple times i went back to check it again. Definitely a bugle about 3" from breech.
We use our sml during Nebraska rifle season so I was still able to switch out barrel to the 30-06 I bought for it when I purchased the gun. Already have it sighted in but bummed I didn't pay closer attention to him loading the muzzleloader. I was thinking about having another sml built off a CVA Scout V2 next year for a carry gun, looks like I will be building one now. My plan with it is to only use 200 SST sabots in it for my boy. We should be drawing muzzleloader antelope tags next year.
Looking forward to Jeff's testing of the cva break action.

Sorry to hear about the bulged barrel and glad to hear your son is alright. We all need to be extra careful with these rifles because we are essentially reloading without the brass and a bullet not completely seated could act as a barrel obstruction. The gun is replaceable.Again glad your son is ok.
