A well heard of muzzleloader builder threw a punch at Cyclops on the other board about four hours ago.

Jeff Hankins invites all to come to the Kentucky Challenge and shoot. I wonder why none of these hot rifles never show up?

Jeff's claim as I recall is the worlds most powerful.45 cal smokeless muzzleloader. I've seen nothing to shoot down his claim.

I guess Tom was a little jealous? This post is to introduce a couple of new Swing-Lock rifles which are quite unique and have some great attributes which will catch the attention of many. As you can see by the pictures below, these muzzleloading rifles have taken a turn towards the modern and ever more popular all aluminum structure with tubular fore ends. It seemed good sense because this type of build is very strong, stable, durable and adaptable to a wide variety of accessories. The Swing-Lock design also with a few slight modifications fit extremely well into this type of platform. Granted these rifles aren’t the artsy wood stocked rifles many of you are familiar with but they are in my opinion very cool and practical. This doesn’t mean Swing-Lock won’t be making wood stocked rifles any more either. These are just some welcome additions. Regarding the two rifles, although both are similar, each is very different in purpose which makes them almost 180 degree opposites of each other. The first rifle below is a heavy long range bench rifle which is of very high capacity in .416 cal.. It weighs 34 lbs without the scope and is strictly a bench type rifle. This rifle is built on a solid aluminum block type chassis with a tubular fore end. The butt assembly is from XLR and is the 50 BMG size which is fully adjustable for length of pull, height of comb, position and angle of the butt. The grip is a modified ATI scorpion which fits the typical Swing-Lock profile very well. The barrel is from Krieger, is 40 In. long and is fitted with an Armalite 50 BMG muzzle brake. For ignition, this rifle uses pre-loaded high strength steel, screw-in priming modules which give the cleanest and highest output ignition available with very impressive consistency. The modules are designed to take full breech pressure so this rifle does not use an orifice but rather uses a device I call an ignition nozzle. The ignition nozzle is designed such that during loading, powder grains from the main charge cannot flow through and possibly block the priming port. Now for the part I’m sure you are all asking. What kind of performance does this rifle have?? Well, from the test targets also shown below, you can see the rifle is very accurate shooting the Cutting Edge 350, 375 and 420 gr MTH bullets shown. The target below with the red mark and ruler was shot by the customer using the 375 gr CE shortly after he received the rifle…..His group is better than mine!…I like that! which further confirms the accuracy of this rifle. He has also been reporting under 1/2 MOA accuracy at 850 yards. His target was shot at 100 yards. The test targets were shot at 118 yards. Following are some numbers for this rifle: 300 gr Barnes TSX 4082 fps 350 gr CE 3753 fps 375 gr CE 3637 fps 420 gr CE 3384 fps It should be said that those velocities are not the maximum this rifle can attain but simply where I decided to drawn the line to help assure long life for certain components and avoid early replacement. This rifle is a pussycat to shoot with very low recoil probably on the order of a 30/30 Win. The bullets in this rifle are full form sized with only one pass thru the die. They are marked before being sized and then loaded to one specific groove. The rifle is not finicky and accuracy is consistent with ES numbers very often in the single digits so long as the shooter uses proper and consistent loading practice. Using the 375 gr CE bullet, this rifle easily shoots through a 3/4 In. thick mild steel plate at 100 yards and almost penetrates at 300 yards. At 850 yards it still easily shoots through a 1/2 In. steel plate. While I am a firm believer in humility and consider it unwise to ever claim I’m the best or that I have the best, I can say with confidence that this heavy Swing-Lock rifle shooting heavier bullets with twice the BC at higher velocities and great accuracy knocks the eye out of “ CYCLOPS, The One Eyed Monster “. Some of you already know what prompted that remark so no further comment needed. The customer picked up the rifle in June of this year and the numbers were established at least a month earlier. The second rifle shown is made to be handy and light weight at 8 1/2 lbs without the scope. It is .375 cal. and has a 20 In. fluted Krieger barrel including the powder chamber. The muzzle brake is side ported and made from high strength 7075 aluminum. This rifle was made for a customers daughter so loads were developed to have good authority without excessive recoil. The chassis is tubular aluminum as well as the fore end. Like the heavy rifle this rifle also includes a fully adjustable but lighter version XLR butt assembly. The grip is a modified Hogue which was chosen because it is a bit smaller in circumference and should work better for a smaller hand. On both of these rifles, you will notice that the trigger guard has been redesigned to properly fit the profile. For ignition, convenient 209 primers are used. You will also see an attached full length carbon fiber loading rod up the side of the rifle which can be relocated to the other side if desired for left hand shooting. As shown by the target below, the rifle shoots Cutting Edge 300 gr MTH bullets very well. It also shoots well with a variety of other bullets listed below. Like the heavy rifle, bullets are FF sized with only one pass through the die. It is not finicky and is consistently accurate. Following are some numbers for this rifle: Sierra 200 gr FP 2330 fps Speer 235 gr HCSP 2654 fps Sierra 250 gr SPBT 2392 fps Cutting Edge 300 gr MTH 2225 fps Velocities shown are not all from maximum loads but rather at the level where good accuracy was observed. Velocities for both rifles were confirmed with two different chronographs housed indoors and under infrared lights specifically for each instrument. I also have a magneto speed which was not used and would not fit on the heavy rifle because of the large muzzle brake. Although I think the magneto speed is a very good instrument, I don't often use it because it is more work and does affect POI. But, if I did use it the readings are typically slightly higher than the instruments commonly used by say 20 to 40 fps. Well, I need to get going. Any comments are welcome. Thanks. Im not defending Tom and don't know why he would make a jab but in all my dealings with him he seems to be a stand up guy, he builds some really unique guns with some great machine and wood work.
Yes Jeff's one eyed monster is the most powerful .45 smokeless gun out there, anyone would ignore the obvious to think otherwise. We don't want to get a head butting contest started here or the our board vs the other board thing cranked back up so let's just leave well enough alone. Jeff's work and Tom's speak for themselves, everyone can draw their own conclusions upon seeing and using both.
Have a great week gent's, that goes out to everyone that reads this site!

Don't know Tom well but he is a true inventor. That said I don't like the black tactical style look for a muzzleloader but I am sure someone will find it a must have or he would not have gone to all the trouble of building these.
People with a ton of cash just found another place to spend it. One thing I do like that Tom uses on his muzzleloaders is a pressure relief system in the barrel. It will save a shooter from a double load. Jeff still has the fastest 45 Caliber M/L on the planet.

I just posted something on Doug's board . Was very polite . We will see if they keep it up . Tom can come to the "challenge" any time and bring a whole team of shooters. They would certainly be welcome. Hope to be there whenever any of the other builders show up with a shooter or team. Interesting it would be. Like the guys around here say, "when the tailgate drops the bullsh#* stops".
I saw your post and said to myself, "that will be deleted PDQ"! I was right. 10

Well I really wasn't trying to stir crap . I was polite and did not mention any names only Kentucky . I thought maybe if I was polite it would stay but it did not . In hindsight it was probably not a good idea . Your right I should of just left it alone .

I don't know the real reason for the jab but I can say that I didn't think Tom was that kind of guy. Perhaps he was poisoned against Jeff. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. As we have found, things are better over here without all of the penis envy.

Jeff's claim as I recall is the worlds most powerful.45 cal smokeless muzzleloader. I've seen nothing to shoot down his claim. Kyle is correct.... I stated that Cyclops is the most powerful 45 caliber muzzle loader in the world, and I would make that statement until someone builds one that is more powerful.. I am sure someone will sooner or later build something that is bigger and badder than my 45 caliber Cyclops. You only need a bigger barrel and an ignition system that can hold the pressure and you can build a more powerful rifle. Why Tom would through punches at me, I have no idea.. I have never said anything bad about him or his work. He actually builds great muzzle loaders and they are quite different from the style of rifles I build. There's no reason he needs to try to be-little my rifles, our work is completely different. I actually shot my 416 at over 4000 FPS at one of the challenges and when I did it, there was those guys on the other board that cried about to high of pressures and that I put everyone in danger that was around me, come to find out, the load I was shooting barely broke the 50,000 PSI mark.. So there is always going to be haters, some people hate me and some people hate Tom, some people just hate everything that they cant do or are not a part of. So I have learned over the last couple of years dealing with this social media stuff that there are talkers and there are doers, You guys that know me, know I am a doer, if I say it I'll do it. The others that just talk about doing it and say I can do it better but never do,,,are mostly just talking out of their ass.... I am here to try and help as much as I can, I don't have all the answers and if you ask me a question I don't know the answer to, I will tell you, "I don't know".... Some people have to chime in on every question and have all the answers, but I think we got rid of those guys already.... Key board hero's are everywhere, you just got to know when they are talking crap and when they really know what they are talking about. To sum this up,,, I kinda think its flattering that these guys like to talk bad about me and keep me banned from the other board. I know they do it because they know deep down inside that I am better than they are and the only way to beat the competition it to eliminate the competition.

Tom's rifle definitely caters to the "Tactical" crowd which seems to be where many are on Doug's. Not saying that is bad, just different. Hank's rifle, on the other hand, appeals to the "Accuracy" and more mature minded shooter.......ala Bench Rest Shooter. There is room for all disciplines. Can I hear an "Amen?"
