I received in the mail a couple of days ago a sample pack of Thor Bullets sized from .500 to .503 to try in my .50 Encore. Trying to break away from sabots. Has anyone else tried these bullets? By the way, the samples were free.

kyle- no answers here but you are the man to give honest results. I have run across many disgruntled mz hunters over the years in the mountains Colorado elk mz hunting that wished for a better bullet than powerbelts.
let us know how they pan out sizing & accuracy/tia

I've shot a bunch of these through my Ultimate Firearms 50s. Getting the size right is very important and Terry Ortwig the owner is very helpful. I found that the snugest fit you can get down the bore will be the most accurate, using moly on these bullets helped a lot to get the tight fitting bullets down. I've shot them to 2200 fps at moa out to 300 yards. I originally used the ones without ballistic tip and then Colorado dropped the "2x dia rule" and I went to the 300 grain ballistic tip. My friend killed a big muley in CO that year and it performed well. I went to 45 calibers soon after and have not used them, but I will when I decide to hunt elk in CO as they require 50 caliber minimum, flagman

I help several guys shooting blackhorn in factory 50s and have great luck with Barnes290 tez with proper sabot to fit right. Hunting guns only. Is there any overall gain to thor bullet? Obviously no sabot!

Lot of guys like the Thors. The biggest complaint is inconsistent sizing.

The Thor Bullets appear to be solid copper. I got a sample pack free from them with bullets ranging from .500"to .503". The size that fits my Encore snug is .502". I'm going to order a 15 pack to see how they shoot. This might be my offhand gun at the shoot. The offer a 247 gr hollow point, a 250 gr ballistic tip and a 300 gr ballistic tip. I'm going to try the 250's first.

I ended up getting the .503 from Thor and buying lee sizing fies from .50 to .502 and I could the exact size I meeded by a combination of running them through different size dies I was doing this for several friends who hunt Colorado, some were White Rifles which were .503 bores, which I knurled up, the heavier loads proved more accurate

Are these thor bullets Barnes tez that have been machined with a recessed base which would tend to swell base then sized down to fit ?

I looked good at the Thors I have and I can't see tooling marks on the inside of cup or base, looks like heat on bullet base, maybe from pouring or? The body of bullet is .4995, not sure if that is the TEZ size. I think he told me several years ago he gets one size made and sizes them down, only the cup area though. Ray

I think Barnes tez measure .451 at base they look so similar was just curious.

I ordered a 15 pack of Thor Bullets tonight in the 250 weight and .502 diameter. I hope to get to the range soon to see how they shoot. I have high expectations for this bullet.

Kyle, I was cleaning between shots for the best accuracy and being able to load the tighter bullets. The hotter loads proved more accurate for me. With Blackhorn you may be able to shoot without cleaning by only brushing between shots. Good luck. Ray

They shot about 1-1.5 MoA in my NULA and the .500 was a perfect fit in my Douglas barrel. I may buy a RUM, make it a switch barrel, and try them in that gun too.

My brother shoots Thor in his TC Triumph and loves them. He uses 85 gr. Pyrodex P (green label) and loves the performance. He killed a big deer a couple years ago and the Thor guys posted his pic and deer on their site, don't know if it is still there. Personally I shoot the 300 gr. Speer .458 in my MLII. If shooting a smoker I would not hesitate to use a Thor with a good fit. JMHO, 10
