To all you gents who have or have had experience with the custom aftermarket 700 SA footprint actions what are the gains and are they worth the extra money?
I am specifically looking at the Defiance Deviant as of now just because I dig the looks and like the built in scope rail and recoil lug. I'm not really looking for one brand vs another brand but more specifically what am I gaining beyond looks for my money? Are they really much smoother than factory? More accuracy? (Not just potentially more accuracy)
Ideally I would hope the action to be significantly smoother, obviously better tolerences and finally stiffer than a factory action...but how much of a gain over factory is there? I am planning on keeping the action forever and possibly making it a switch barrel affair so the price point is not out of line for my wants.
Any comments welcome.

Custom actions are blue printed from the factory, no work needed when the smith barrels it up. smoother? generally, yes. sometimes much smoother.
some come with one piece machined bolts that are stronger with no worries about the bolt handle breaking no matter if you back over it with your truck.
thinking is by the time you have a factory action tweaked you have almost as much in it as a custom, customs hold their value well also.
my next CF will be on a custom if it's from the ground up, if you already have a donor gun then it's a no brainer.

Main thing is resale value. You will not regain what you put into accurizing a Remmy. The custom actions are allot smoother to cycle as well. I made the mistake and have almost 900 bucks in a Remmy I couldn't get 600 for if I tried to sale it.

I agree..............Yes, you can get a trued Rem. action to shoot well but the money spent to do it is much better spent on a custom action. Re-sale being the most important. The thing is, most Remington actions will shoot better than the trigger puller can shoot it with just a simple squaring up of the receiver face and lapping the lugs. Unless you are into competitive bench rest, most Remington's will more than suffice.

I would like to get a custom Bat action with right hand bolt, left loading port, and built in picatinny rail. I will, someday.

A slicked up remmy will shoot with any custom action. The customs tend to be smoother so you can run them faster in matchtype scenarios. Like everyone said its the resale value by buying a custom. Just beware that if you buy a custom make sure its one that has been around for a while. Ive got an older Shilen DGA magnum action that is on my hunting gun but that action is now obsolete. Ive got a couple BATs and they are awesome. Kelbly actions are also great. The defiance actions work great and are very nice. They make a great hunting gun. If you are a tinkerer get a kelbly panda. You can call any reputable gunsmith and tell them you want a panda barrel in whatever caliber and they make them and ship them to you with out needing the rifle. There are also alot of panda barrels floating around for sale that you can screw on and shoot (with the right boltface of course)
