My son finally got out for his first squirrel huning trip of the year. His CZ 452 Varmint paired with a Leupold 3x9x40 parallax adjusted to 60 yds and some German SK Match long rifle hollow points makes for a very deadly combo. 5 for 5 on head shots. I will be going in the morning..had to work this am...the first pic is of a cross bred Fox/Grey squirrel.

I will likely wait til after frost around here, my squirrel gun is a High Standard pistol with 2x burris scope, pretty deadly out to 60 yds or so..
those CZs are squirrel getters for sure..
wish we had more fox squirrels around here, I live on the outside edge of their range.
Lot's of fun to get in the woods early and get them cutting hickory nuts..

We lived outside of Olney Illinois when I was growing up. Olney is home of the White squirrel. I saw a lot of color variations around that part of the country. White head and tail and fox squirrel body. Just north of me here in Indiana we have a good population of black squirrels. I haven't hunted squirrel with a pistol in years...probally couldn't hit one with a pistol anymore...lol

Got an easy/fast way to skin the tough-hided little critters? I really like the meat, but HATE skinnin' them!!

I am sure tar12 does. The method I saw was cutting around the tail, stepping on it and pealing up. A lot better than trying to clean them like a rabbit.

Danno I use the method Jim mentioned.Best to do it as soon after they hit the ground as possible. I carry a cooler in warmer weather and some water. The mess stays in the timber.
