The world Open was held this weekend at the 1.000 yard club out side of Williamsport, Pa. Conditions were about as bad as they could be 20 to 30 mph winds some gusts higher and some rain thrown in for excitement. Its hard enough to shoot a good 10 shot group at 1,000 yards when conditions are good. In the World Open you have to shot a high score and a small group. We had 120 light guns . There is a 17lb weight limit for light gun. Anything goes as long as it doesn't weight over 17lbs. Heavy gun is unlimited.
I used my 6mm Dasher in light gun. This has the X-Caliber barrel and also I built a heavy 6MM Dasher. Now my heavy gun only weighs 25lbs I didn't want a 50 lb rifle I had plenty of those in the past. The heavy Dasher also has a new X-Caliber barrel. both barrels are their 6 groove 1-8 twist. On the first day I shot a score of 90 out of 100 the second day I won my relay with the highest score 91 that put me over all in 17th place. from 10th thru 18th everyone had a 90.5 average so it went by group size to decide how you ended up. I was happy with that because a lot of people were not able to keep 10 shots on the target. Heavy gun was a bust my groups were decent but my scores were low so that took me out of the running.
On the second day in heavy gun I had a 10" group with (9) shots in 5.9" but number 10 decided it wanted to go back were my last sight in shot went. But that was really encouraging to see how well this new barrel is shooting in really terrible conditions and I might add this is only the second time I got to shoot this barrel. Both X-Caliber barrels shoot the same load and same seating depth with a 107gr Sierra MK. that makes it really nice.
