Hank just messaged me my rebarrel is done and I'll be getting the newly barreled action soon. Trying to catch up on the stock work. What is preferred recoil pad? It is a "hunting" gun. Personally I favor "Limbsaver" pads and have them on the heavier recoiling (my#10 autos and light 12 gauges and my 3 operational SML) guns I own. Otherwise, 22rf - small caliber cf - 870 & 20 and 410 shotguns, they have factory. Just wondering what the other preferences were and how satisfactory they are? Thanks. 10

I have been running trap/ clays pads lately even on my muzzy's. Terminator sold through 100 straight was one and a pachmayr XLT trap pad was the other. That XLT trap pad was very noticable as compared to the factory installed pad on the Bell and Carlson pad it replaced. I did not expect there to be much gain so that was a pleasant surprise.

I have used lot's of decellerator pads and they are good, they hold up well and have good recoil reduction (1" that is)
the best I have used in recoil reduction is kick eze 1 1/8" thick, they work really well but not as durable as the decellerator

My limbsaver.in my Encore's have held up fine and one of them is over 10 years old. All of my Limbsaver archery gear became somewhat "gummy" after a while. Made me a little concerned. Everything I order now from Boyds has the Pachmayer decelerator pad on them1". They seem to work very well and glide over clothing and "mount" well Drop

I have used the Kick-Eze on all the guns I have built for my customers with no complaints. Used them on my own guns not shot from the sled. Like Bill, the 1 1/8" pad works great and they also sand well on my belt sander.

Yes I agree with Richard, they are easier to "grind" than a Decelerator pad but I have noticed in field use they will chunk out on the edges if you are rough on them, in other words they tear easier than the rubber pads. I still use them though, just ordered two today as a matter of fact.

Recoil pads aren't something I have much experience far as variety of options. (There are plenty out there.) I am however experienced in recoil enough to know that I don't enjoy being beaten every time I pull the trigger. Jeff did a SML barrel installation on a Remington 700 for me. I put it in a Boyd's thumbhole laminate stock. The 1/2" pad had to go. Purchased a Limbsaver nitro series grind to fit from Midway. At 1.5" thick it tames recoil nicely. My Hankins rifle is a more enjoyable gun to shoot, with the same bullet, than the Savage muzzleloader that I've used for ten years. The Savage weighed 3 or 4 pounds less and fired the same 300 grain bullet but at about 700 fps slower than my Hankins gun. (It was an older Savage and had the thin 1/2" pad.)
Can't speak for logetivity on the Limbsaver nitro pad because I've only just built the gun. There is a review I posted on Midway including a picture if you wish to take a look.

If you got one that will beat your brains out the kick-eez is THE champ . Especially the 1 3/8 magnum pad . Its a Cadilac !!! Next best imo is the 1 1/2 in.limbsaver. it will compress more though so pay attention to scope clearance . These 2 are the best i know of . Also wax up the outsides of your pads after sanding . It helps i think 1 for mounting and 2 the chipping issues . All edges rounded a bit of course too . I use carnuba wax .

Kick-eze and the limbsaver pads do not like to be stood up on a rough surface and loaded like we use them in the SML world, they do tear more easily but they also handle the recoil better. also don't leave your heavy gun stood in a corner for a long period of time with these pads, they will flatten over time. Pachmayr is the durability champ by far, not as good on dispersing recoil as the other two but still do a good job.

Have you used this pad, or had one in your hands? I have used just about every recoil pad made and Pachmayr is the top of the line. When building a $5,000.00 rifle, I would hate to put a pad on it that will deteriorate in a few short years. Pachmayr is the only pad I will install on a custom rifle. I don't care if they costed $100.00, I’ve been there, done that.

No Hank i havent . I posted about this pad as one that guys are going crazy over and giving it rave reviews . I though guys may want to know about them . Pachmeyer is a decent pad , so is kick-eez and some like limbsavers . Its all choices . Pachmeyer are what most professionals use for their customers .

Limbsaver is junk, anyone that has one know this, Kiceez ain't to far from it. Pachmeyer is the only way to go.
