Started out overcast at 62 degrees with high humidity and no wind………that gave way to sunshine as the morning progressed and with that some light wind. Not bad but with relatively low BC bullets and longer ranges, it does not take much to make a 1” 300 yard group into 2” if you get my “drift!” Started out putting a fouling shot at a 100 yard rock……..which is now dust! That 300 SST went down so loose I believe it would have fallen out if I pointed the muzzle at the floor. Staying with the same load and loose bullet, I nailed the orange dot! Cool! Then I fired the second shot………………….Sombitch went 11” high and made an impression of the bullets profile! Too loose! Got lucky on the first two shots. So now I started putting a light knurl on the remaining 300 gr. SST’s. I already had one in the dot, one 11” out (note: 200 fps slower also) so I proceeded to put four more shots into what would be a .422” five shot group! (got a ways to go the catch hammer) As good as that was, I clicked up 1 ½ MOA and went to 200 yards where a three shot group went .785”! Next up the same load at 300 with 4 ½ MOA. Here the group somewhat opened to just over MOA for five shots. Moving on to the 275 AccuMaxx……….mind you, the sun was now out and a slight breeze could be detected. Anyway, 3 at 100 gave me a .540” At 200 a three shot .821 and at 300 yards, a three shot 1.240 . It’s the longer ranges where the Pittman bullet starts to really shine. Finally, I put three 290 TEZ’s down range at 300 which produced a 2.225” group. Everything was shot with duplex loads of either 5/66 Clays/H-4198 or 6/65. Winchester 209 primers were used exclusively and I had no semblance of sticking on the bolt nose or leaking anywhere in or around the primer or cup and ignition all positive. upload a pictureupload gifs

Richard, great report as usual, that .422 5 shot group is pretty impressive with 300 gr. sst's, I don't know if I can hang with that shooting 5 shots groups.
Richard is there a way to explain to a computer illiterate like myself how to post a collage of targets like you post that are easily viewed?

Thanks guys.......it was just one of the good days when the stars aligned! Phil...................That collage is assembled by hand. I cut them out and then tape them together. It takes time, believe me! Jerry..............they were not the blems we got from MidWay, but original Hornady SST's with the somewhat rounded base. From the looks of the blems, I see no reason why they would not do as good. It was interesting to see just how loose those bullets could be and still shoot good..............but there was that "fine line" between loose and too loose where stability was affected.

Drop...............Yes, I was also a Boy Scout, actually an Eagle Scout and got that Boys Life magazine and did look forward to it. I am glad you enjoy my reports. Actually, other than the collage, I would normally do my information sheet just for my own records. I do it with all my CF rifles and long range pistols. It is a great resource to look back on when I have a question on a bullet or load or when someone PM's me about a load. If I was computer savvy, the information would all be on spread sheets------------which I have no idea how to do, nor do I want to learn at this stage of my like. The loose leaf folder works just fine. Beans.............At my age, I don't want to get involved in building odd ball stuff that would be near impossible to sell should I "kick the bucket!" My wife knows nothing about this stuff and I don't have much in the way of friends that that know anything about SML's? Herman would be a source but he is older than I am? ? Ten or fifteen years ago I would probably be game to do more experimenting. I would probably have newer/heavy duty lathe and mill and make it my business to learn how to use them to their potential. I build my own match CF bench guns and a few for friends but that's it. I am satisfied playing with what I have outside of maybe another .45 on a CF action.
