since everything has kind of settled down and cooled off I thought I would see what everyone has up their sleeve for new hunting rigs and/ or Challenge guns for summer builds? some might be tight lipped not wanting to let the cat out of the bag but I thought I would throw this out there and see if I could stir up some responses. I have some stuff at H&M right now getting Melonited and as soon as it gets back my TOTE EM POLE will get finished up, I will post up some pictures when its done. I also have a Mcmillan A-4 sitting on the bench and a 700 SS single shot action on order along with a big fat barrel, guess what that's for? as for now the barrel is semi secret, it might end up being a high dollar tomato stake? then again it might be the magic carpet? After all I feel like I need to do something to compete with Richard, Blakely, and all the others at the shoot. actually the gun I have now will compete, it's the trigger puller that's the problem. Kind of makes one hopeful when your sitting at the bench with a new gun though Fess up and lets get some interest stirred!

Well, I don't have anything new in the works project wise, but I am looking forward to getting my new Apex Conversion in the deer woods come November.
And I'm looking forward to seeing the finished pics of the "Tote Em Pole", that is a sweet looking little gun right there.

Finishing up a Savage PTA HIS Brux that is out being Black Ice coated now. After that I'm looking at a 300 win mag build for this year I think.

Well I received a barrel and all the goodies from Jeff today. Really looking forward to getting this thing put together and see what it will do. I guarantee I will be the weak link in the chain.

I have a extremely busy summer lined up,projects that need to be attended to so I won't get much trigger time & probably will miss some more local shoots due to this. that should fill my "excuse cup"
but I do have a hankins build in the works much like my current gun but some difference's.
1/18tw #17 brux finished out near 31".
I plan when I get time to run 325 & 350's accumax's with 3031.

I'm working on a smokeless 50/510 project but am presently bottlenecked and waiting on a barrel blank. This is my most ambitious build to date as I am trying to outsource as little as possible.
Cut down and lrp modified 327 federal ignition modules.
Savage target action with modified bolt nose to accept ignition modules. Slightly modified port opening for fat fingers. Modified bolt handle. Cut in secondary rear recoil lug.
My own plug design and bushings. 5/8 diameter, lots of threads, rear seal with replaceable 15-5 stainless bushings. I made 5 and did not check my first one. Ooops was .100 off as I did not allow for case web thickness. So built 5 more the right way.
Custom built 2 port tactical brake, 1.75 dia.
Custom barrel band ram rod support.
Custom adjustable smooth form sizing die of my own design. I will be adding a matching FF die when my barrel arrives.
Just ordered parts to build my own bullet mold. Did I mention I hope to make this a paper patch gun. Bestill is partially to blame for this. This will be a first for me but I am excited to try! If the pp fails I have a bullet maker willing to make a flat base .510 vld type bullet. All bullets will be in the 600 grain area.
Rock Creek ss barrel blank, very heavy contour. 1:15 twist and 29.5" finish. I will finish this barrel nutless as a standard shouldered barrel.
B&C M40 stock with custom 3rd screw solid aluminum bedding block to fill the mag well and acommodate secondary recoil lug.
Vortex HSLR scope or other 50+mm objective. Bigger and heavier the better.
DNZ or Talley rings
Weight or possibly mercury recoil reducer(s) added to rear of stock to balance out completed gun and to add additional weight.
My final goal is to have a MOA capable gun with 600ish gr cast paper patch bullets at around 2350fps +/- 50 fps. If my memory is correct that should put me at about 7,500 ft/lbs at the muzzle.

I had a Vortex HSLR fail at the shoot. Vortex took care of it. Welllllll....if everything works out with being off work and I don't have to get in to my "slush money " to live on. I am doing a new build. Don't get me wrong I am not crying "poor"( at least any more thar the rest of you guys) lol. Just have to keep an eye on things. I have another Savage Target action right hand and right port . And a Krieger .450-.458 1 in 20 twist 1.250 for 8" then taper to 1 inch at 28.1/4 with a 3" barrel drop. I will use the recoil lug that come's with the action . And the existing Savage target accutrigger. It will be a .209 ignition system. Also another Boyds ProVarmint custom cut to 13-3/4 LOP with the adjustable cheek piece and a Pachmeyer decelerator pad aluminum pillars and bedded. A 1.250 Harrel's radial brake. Attempting to build a twin to my purple DooDah gun. No I don't know why...just what I want to do. Hope also to finish it off with NightForce hardware and glass. So it will take some time to assemble the $$$ to finish it up. I may hang a Ziess HD on it for some time . Is it normal to be planning my next build after this one already? drop

Dang! Ya'lls are spending a ton of cash! Unless I have a major breakdown, I will be shooting the same ole' paper puncher I shot in the last two Challenges! Maybe I will work a little more with my Shilen barreled gun.............might move the Shilen 2 oz. into it and put the Jewel 1 1/2 oz. in the Brux. There were a lot of good guns at the last Challenge that with maybe a better trigger and a little more bench time, could easily take the "brass ring!" I see a lot of these new builds as being somewhat akin to the golfer who needs to buy a new set of clubs because it will make him a better golfer? ? On the other hand, if I can sell the .22BR rifle I have on consignment at a LGS, I might---------------"might?" buy a CF action and do a build with one of Hank's modules. If I did that, I would definitely sell my present Rem/Brux and the Rem/Shilen. Only need one ML'er!

Just received my Encore Bergara conversion barrel from Jeff and could not be happier with it. Jeff did an awesome job with plug and mounting ramrod on it for me. Am very pleased with the way it shoots too. Also joined this forum about a month ago and got a lot of usefull info since this smokeless thing is new to me so thanks to you other members also. First four shots produced a slightly over half inch group if i throw the first shot out because i think i was flinching so badley not knowing what to expect. If i knew how i would add a picture. Guess i figured it out. I Cant wait to take it hunting this fall. It will be nice to be able to see after the shot for a change.
