Just wondering what everyones thoughts were on using wads? Seems some use them and some don't. This is in relation to smoothform.

Wads help to seal the area between the lands and grooves with smooth formed bullets.

Depends on your rifle, your load, and your preference. I started with wool wads and ended up with my own cut cardboard wads. The cardboard wads are very similar to veggie wads I just like making my own stuff when I can.
I've tried no was but it wasn't for me, I feel like I have added security with wads but that's me.
What ever works best for you is what I recommend.

I shoot both ways, bottom line is, whatever your gun likes and what works best for you.

Like Hillbill, you have to go with what your gun/load is telling you. Read my post on "two days after the challenge" I will be putting a post on in the next hour or so with more information on your question and you will see why you need to test BOTH ways.

I use the veggies. I prefer the better seal and they scrape down a little of the fouling each time you load. I short start the veggie wad then the bullet. Send both down to the powder together.

Not to hijack this thread but what is the concensus with wads and brakes, specifically tactical? Will they cause damage?

I have veggies that I will be testing with my gun and i will also test no wad. I guess i was more worried about ignition failure without a wad but then i was seeing several people that dont use them.

Richard has a good post today about wads/no wads in various bullets.

For 209 system I'd use a wad it's added security for ignition. If your shooting full form you might be able to get away without a wad.
Try both ways and see what your gun tells you. Make sure you try in all temps and weather conditions as well.
