I didn't think it had been warm enough in Indiana for mushrooms yet. I am going to southern Indiana this weekend to set up blinds for turkey season I will have to look for some. I don't much like eating mushrooms but I like looking for them.

rr-good to see kids out in the wild having fun-priceless,i will be taking 3 of my grandchildren boys 6 & 4 & my granddaughter 2-1/2. while they are out they like to check on the persimmon trees we planted last year.
wtw- good luck & let us know how you do on mushrooms- I'm in south west Indiana turkey season on the 27th & we usually find a bunch at that time. seems like every year is different.
never thought of them popping this year this early also & these 3 were found just a couple of miles from my home. will get out sat or sun to check here.

Been out by McCook a few years ago and came away with 9 lbs. but it was 3 weeks later than this. Maybe I need to take a road trip.

Looks like the kids are having a good time,, can't go wrong taking them out looking, if you find some, that's great, if you don't well the kids were happy looking for them.
I have never found one.. I have heard they are really good to eat and I'm sure I would like them as I do love sauté mushrooms..
Does anyone have any tips on where to start looking for them..??

Dead or dying ash and elm trees also old apple orchards, clear cuts especially if the burned it after they cut it thats where we find the most although I have found them along creeks while trout fishing where none of those trees were at! I sure would think that there would be some in your area

The spot I'm finding them is freshly burned off. Every time I've gone back to the same spot we found 2 to 3 dozen mushrooms. Around here some of the restaurants are buying the mushrooms for $20 a pound I know as the season goes till get clear up to $40 a pound. I just cooked up all the mushrooms we found earlier in the week tonight for my boys birthday party and everybody loved them.
