Our season starts Friday. I did more scouting on Saturday and it was snowing and blowing. Didn't see anything or hear anything. Not sure how this weekend will go yet, I am not 100% sure I'll go but my kid is super excited so I still might.
Bought a video camcorder to set if I can get his hunt on video better than his deer hunt!! Hopefully weather will be better than its saying.

The weather leading up to our opener had been highs in the 70's and a couple days in the 80's. Then the cold front on Sunday just shut the birds down. I hunt woods with no fields so without the birds talking it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
My buddy videoed my opening day kill last year on his gopro but I haven't seen it yet. He said the footage wasn't great...
Good Luck to you and your son!

This was my first year in Nebraska (2012) I had never shot a Jake before but was getting it on video so I decided to shoot him anyways.
I have a Kodak playsport that I bought for videoing hunts but I'm not happy with action cameras so I got this new one but starting to think I'll be sending it back. It has an 18x digital zoom and I don't remember those being good, we'll see.

I ended up sending the video camera I got off Amazon back, felt I'd send up hating the camera. Can't wait to get out myself!! Congrats!

No pictures posted as you don't want to see my ugly mug anyway but I broke the ice this morning on a 2 yr old tom. weather was terrible, 37 degrees and winds 10-20 MPH here on the mountain. I laid in bed for a while but as the sun started to come up I had to get out of the house, I'm glad I had my rain coat top in my vest, the wind was about to put a chill down my spine.
I just went behind my house, there have been a few hens hanging around but no gobblers, I knew it was only a matter of time before one came calling. he was with two hens but got to go for a ride in my vest on the way back home , I'm sure they will miss him
21 lb 4 oz with 5/8" spurs and 8 1/2" beard, not a trophy by any means but it will sure be good eating....
