I have 1:22 twist .45s with Pacnor and McGowen barrels from back in the day when they were in vogue 10+ years ago. I am thinking of doing a 1:18 or 1:20 twist on a centerfire action.
It will be for shooting sabotless 250 gr to 300 gr bullets. I really like the Barnes T-EZs. I don't shoot past 300 yards and while hunting it is usually less than 150 yards.
Whose barrel blank should I go with? I know that I don't want another Pacnor and feedback on McGowen is inconsistent these days so plan to stay away from them.

I would choose a 1-20 twist for those bullets. Brux, Krieger, Bartlein would be my choices and in that order.

I think that I am going with the Brux .45 1:20 # 6 contour. They are in stock.

If you're considering McGowen barrels, it might be a good idea to do some additional research, read more reviews, and perhaps reach out to other users who have first-hand experience with these barrels. Additionally, comparing McGowen barrels to other brands like Shilen, Criterion, and X-Caliber could also help you make an informed decision.

I have 2 of their .45 1:22 twist 8 land barrels from the 2012 to 2014 timeframe. No complaints, I just don't want another one. I actually prefer them over my Pacnors from that same timeframe. Time to move on and get with the times.

The end to end consistency of cut rifled -Brux, Kreiger, Bartlein etc vs button rifled - pax or Mcgowen is literally night and day Especially for the game we play

Way back in the day Mcgowen did a run of barrels for me lapped to a specific bullet for fit After that run they refused to do it any more Too much trouble
