I've always been happy with the performance of the Leupold scopes I use on most of my rifles and muzzleloaders, including the smokeless Encore I bought from Jeff. A couple years ago I bought a Burris OracleX for my Mission Sub-One Lite crossbow. It is a little big and bulky, but I simply love the performance. It is a great tool for reducing wounding rates. There is no more guessing distance based on trees I ranged at the beginning of the hunt or getting made with the movement of trying to range the deer in real time. I simply aim, push a button on the remote, and get an aiming point in the scope.
This year, Burris redesigned their laser ranging scope, the Eliminator. I avoided it in the past for a couple reasons. Again, the scope was large and bulky with a non-standard mounting system. Second, the optics were not ideal. It looks like they have addressed both of those in the new design. I hope the new Eliminator 6 will hold up to my smokeless. My encore is fairly heavy and with Jeff's break, it does not have too much kick shooting 65 grains of 4198 and 275gr pittmans. I did have an issue with my Leupold QR rings having the leaver bumped but that could happen with any rifle. I haven't had any issue with the Leupold scope itself. I guess I'll see if the Burris can handle it.
My cost will be about the same as the Leupold scopes I use that don't have ranging built in. I have not yet been able to get documentation on the BurrisConnect App they use to program it. The literature does say that you can program in hand loads so I presume I won't have an issue programming in the ballistics of my SML.
I just ordered it and a set of Jeff's scope rings for it. I should have time to work with it before the season this fall.
