Does anyone shoot the 250gr Barnes Spitfire T EZ bullets out of their 45cal break action smokeless muzzleloader? If so do you use wool wads? I have a bunch and want to try them. They are .451 so I hope they aren't too small. I just got my conversion done and gave it to my dad for his birthday. Getting ready to send mine to Hankins. I have N120 powder.

I'm using Barnes solid copper pistol bullets they are .0451 they will fall down bore. I give them knurl with 2 files and use dry wool wad. Not sure what size the TEZ are ?

I have a bunch of them for sale on the "For Sale" section. 104 of the 290 gr TEZ and 34 of the 250's. I shot my smallest ever 3 shot group with the 290's @ .063" Knurled with a veggie wad.

Are you able to reliably knurl them? What is the process? My barrel also won't work with .451 bullets- too loose

I have to new bastard files about 12" long. I wrapped a piece of masking tape about 1" from end on both.I lay the bullet at edge of tape and roll to tape on other end then go back to where I start. The secret is putting same pressure on top file on each stoke and each bullet. But works very well for me.

Use same hand pressure roll them same distance on file there very uniform. Takes a little bit of practice.

I have shot Barnes 45ACP 185gr TAC-XP bullets in my Scout with a Eastern Maine wool wad with N110. Straight out the box, no knurl.

What I used to do with them was to heavily knurl then run thru Hank's adjustable die to get them all uniform. I actually shot my smallest three shot group with the 290 TEZ and a veggie wad. .063" out of the old Savage/Pacnor conversion.

250 gr TEZ with a heavy knurl and a veggie wad shoots very well out of my two CVA Apex conversions.

When I was shooting the Barnes bullets I measured diameter and they are not .451 but closer to.4505, I also heavy knurled them and shot them with a wad. One gun (Apex) liked veggie and the Scout likes wool.

One gun (Apex) liked veggie and the Scout likes wool. That is what my measurements do show too. The fall into the barrel like a mortar shells into the tube. I'll have to try playing with the files. My guess it needs aggressive teeth files to upset bullets enough. Being all copper, I'm, guessing they will resist?

I would just knurl and load without sizing. That works well for me.

Use 2 Nicholson double cut Bastard Files to knurl these bullets.
