Does anyone know of a replacement breach plug for the original savage 10ml to get away from the modules

That looks like the 10ml II plug. I think the 10ml first edition was different

I believe you have a lugged action Sav. and would be more cost effective to swap barrel to a 45cal which would be more accurate. You won't get past having machine work done so the cost of a new barrel would be well worth the investment should you decide to stay with the Sav platform.

Dennis, I do have the lugged action and think I would need a different bolt head to do that and if so does anyone make these? I wonder if the action/barrel threads are the same as the 10ml2 actions

Yes to bolthead change not sure about tenon thread size. I believe you can tell which shank size by the length of the barrel nut.

Large shank barrel nut is 5/8" long, small shank is 7/8" long.

My barrel nut is 5/8, but barrel has a shoulder about a 1/4" past barrel nut.

It's a large shank.

The large shank has a 1.120-20 TPI thread and jeff makes these barrels with barrel nuts for do it yourself options. You would need a savage barrel nut wrench and action wrench or barrel vise to do this correctly. I have done many this way in rifle calibers and some muzzleloaders with success.
However Since these muzzy,s have super magnum + explosive energy - I strongly recommend using a 1.250” barrel for 5” ( brux #6 or 17 from jeff) and having it installed/machined by a gunsmith- to your present action.
This gives you a good insurance policy if a failure was to happen. JMO

To be more clear - does the bolt itself have lugs that lock - up by where you insert the 209 primer now ? If it doesn’t have these lugs - I wouldn’t consider this for a smokeless build.

This is what the Breech Plug and Primer Modules look like for the original 10ML like Hunter says he has. Yes, the original 10ML did have locking lugs like the Model 10 and 110 Savage Centerfires. I'm sharing this in case someone hasn't seen this setup or is unaware it existed.

This last picture by rlp10ml is what i have There are 2 kinds of bolt heads on savage ML 1 has locking lugs where the primer inserts -the other doesn’t. Image is without locking lugs below -above has them (this is what’s required for safety. This is what I’m asking about I hope you have the lugs Thanks
