Getting a real taste of winter in NW Indiana. We are just downwind of Lake Michigan, so we get what they call lake effect snow. Cold air picks up moisture across the unfrozen waters. The curve of the front sent wind down all 300 miles of the lake this time. They said the snow fall rate was 3-4"/hr at it's worse. We got 20" of snow in approx 14 hours. Just to the west of us in LaPorte was 32". Mercy! Putting the snowblower and tractor to good use now!

I'm very familiar with lake-effect snowfall having lived close to the western shore of Lake Michigan all my life. But all the people on the eastern shore of any of the Great Lakes, they normally receive the bulk of the lake-effect snow and as you point out, it can be crazy heavy and fast accumulating snowfall. Spring is coming.

I would like to say I’m jealous but I’m happy with just the 3" we got. The good news is that at least you have the means to deal with it.

I'm at the 45th parallel, between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Between the two storms we received 38". The first dumped 14" of really HEAVY WET snow, then just two days later it dumped another 24". I am so thankful for our Polaris Ranger with heat.

There's a reason Buffalo isn't a desired place to live during the winter... LOL FWIW when I'm headed up or back from the U.P. that stretch between Gaylord and Grayling is always the worst for snow...

We stop at Jay's Sporting Goods in Gaylord when we go to Mackinaw. Last time we were in Traverse City, we headed over to Grayling and spent the night. We just love all that area.

It was the manager back in firearms and another fella at Jay's that started a 1,000yd range over to Johannesburg, then found out that the township wouldn't zone it. That is unfortunate. I find good deals over to Hillman at A-1. Traverse City I avoid unless it necessary. That area between Grayling and Gaylord is at a higher elevation and gets pounded with snow.

Now saying rain and 1/4" of ice accumulation for us over next 24 hours. Showing to start after I get to work of course. Maybe they'll send us home. HA! Could be a real bloodbath out there later.

Yep, here in extreme northern Illinois, had a thick layer of ice frozen on everything this morning. I had to drive 30 miles on rural roads at 7:30 this morning and there were quite a number of cars and trucks already accumulated in the ditches and off the roadway in deep snow. The temperature has risen up to freezing for the first time in a week or so and the weather forecast, as you stated, is calling for four straight days of rain/snow/sleet. The insurance company executives are crying.

From a personal point of view, I'm happy for my F-150 to once again be able to squirt windshield washer fluid for the first time since the temps dropped well below zero. haha Had this truck for eleven winters and every time the temps drop well below freezing, the washer fluid line freezes up even when I use the store bought washer fluid that isn't supposed to freeze. Hopefully the engineer who designed the washer fluid system has been unceremoniously fired by Ford. haha

Temp stayed at freezing overnight. Just a light skim ice, and already melted off as temp is 34deg now. I'd say we lucked out as a degree or two lower and we could have been in a pickle. Forecasted to stay above freezing and into the 40's and even 50's in the next few weeks. Will be nice to get back to some normalcy.

Just my .02 cents.

Just my .02 cents. Thank you, sir. I'm gonna dump a bottle of 91% alcohol in the reservoir today. Maybe should have tried this eleven years ago. haha Guess they don't put enough in the store bought "freeze-proof" stuff. Thanks again.
