I bought a semi custom .45 from Jeff in October and I shoot green tip fury. Now I am in the process of getting a Cva conversion for my son. My question is why we all use .452 bullets ant reload data for 45-70 says .458?

Completely different applications. Your groove diameter in the barrel is .458, diameter of the lands is around .452. You would never be able to front load a .458 bullet. You have to "ride the lands" and count on obturation of the projectile to seal the barrel.

You can use .458 bullets if you get a Full Form sizing die. The FF die will engrave rifling marks on the bullet.

I see that on here all the time, I made a die from a section of a .452 barrel and a push rod turned down from a 1/2" bolt, tried to push a Hornady 250xtp thru the die in my rockchucker press. Notice I said tried, after what felt like I was going to rip my press off the bench and lots of screeching metal noise the bullet finally gave up and went thru the die, either I wasn't holding my mouth right or something, can't wrap my head around it working in the barrel even after pushing thru the die?

Did you use any lubricant when trying full form sizing? I suspect that it would be very tough to line up the bullets considering the small margin for error. Seems excessively difficult given how accurate these guns can be with .451-.452 bullets. Maybe polygonal rifling would be easier than conventional rifling with full form sizing. Don't know, just making an assumption...

It takes a bigger press than an RCBS to get the job done. The Redding ultramag press comes to mind.

Years back I bought a Redding Ultramag specifically for full forming
Still, monos and very hard bullets are a struggle even with the big press

The place I worked at, years back, had a small arbor press that they was going to throw away. I told my supervisor, I would take it. That's what I use to size bullets with.

Years ago, I got a 2 ton arbor press for sizing among other applications. Even full forming monos is a breeze, but I do lubricate.

Well that experiment was enough to make me change direction for that barrel, it's now a 454casull handi rifle. Once I tried the fury universal fits in my .50 they are plenty accurate to cover all my situations.
