I need a scope for my Scout conversion. I’m wanting a variable that will go to at least 12 power with a 50mm lense. All this talk about recoil blowing out the crosshairs has me worried about making the wrong choice. Does anybody have a recommendation on a make and model that has proven itself over time to take the recoil. I understand about getting the what I pay for but need to stay around 400 or less if possible. Just worried about something that won’t hold up.

Depends on what your budget is. I haven't had any issues with my Burris Fullfield E1. A lot of guys have had good luck with Vortex. If you can afford Nightforce, that seems to be the concensus best option. As always, nothing is failsafe. Just get a decent scope with an ironclad warranty.

Definitely look at Vortex, Arken is another good one for the money.

Quite frequently there are good deals on Midway USA for Vortex scopes. I saw the other day the Vortex Venom 5-25 FFP for $499 I believe. That was a sale price.

I have a Vortex Viper on a converted 10MLII and an Athlon Argos on a converted 700ML for years now. The Argos has much clearer glass than the Viper. Both have held up well with loads 275gr bullets to 2800fps with the 700ML and 2600fps with the 10MLII.

I've blasted away with the lower end Burris in 3x9 and 4.5x14 on sml, slug guns, and hpr for a long long time without fail. A lot of bang for the buck.

Meopta Optika6. Have thousands of shots on multiple smokeless muzzleloaders. Never lost zero once. You be hard pressed to find better glass for the money. The Optika5 are the same scope just 1 in tube.
