What’s y’all’s opinion on the best 450 dollar scope? Going on a 45-70 CVA scout SML

I have a Sightron S-Tac on mine and I'm pleased with it so far.

I've not mounted one on a SML yet, but I have an Athlon Argos BTR that's within that budget. Optically, it does great on prairie dogs out to 400 yds. Beyond that, the crosshairs are thick enough that they are blocking out quite a bit of the younger pups. Should still work fine on medium size game or larger though. FWIW, I prefer a FFP Christmas tree reticles when I'm shooting any appreciable distance in the field. They allow me to make instant and accurate hold overs especially for wind. Some people complain that they are too busy, but I never understood that. It's not like its difficult to quickly line up and take a 100 yd shot with them. 300 yds is about as far as I care to go with a standard duplex on a normal high power rifle.

I put an Arken EP-5 on a bolt build. Seems to be a quality low budget, high power, long range scope that stands up to the recoil of SML. Some of the smaller scopes fall well below your target price.
IIRC, someone on her posted a video of a 1,000+ yd kill with one.

Another vote for the Athlon Argos. Have had one on a 700ML for years and no hiccups.

swfa.com/swfa-10x42-ss-moa-quad-reticle-30mm-25-moa-clicks-side-focus/You can find these on sale for $100 off sometimes. Right now it’s $400 This is the toughest scope I’ve ever used on a budget period -for holding up to brutal recoil. And might be the toughest compared to anything I’ve ever used. The Arkens have done really well - but recently buckeye broke the EP-5 in less than 10 shots on his short barreled CVA. I thought I broke my SH4 but it had a broken ring after 1400 plus rounds of brutal abuse. Yes you heard it right -I broke one of the scope rings. I’m hard on equipment besides shooting. Long hikes (falling down) and tipping over on motorcycles and e-bikes are worse than recoil. Lol ! SWFA aren’t as poplular as they used to be - but I’ve never known anyone to break one yet. Dented a few and they still held zero and tracked well.

I've also had great luck with the Weaver 3-10x40 Weaver Tactical Mil/mil on a number of rifles, including CVA SMLs
