Following up on a thread I made showing my new and first SML. The Rifle uses a Hanks HIS and has a Defiance Outcast action with a 26" Brux #17 Fat Bastard brake. It sits in a XLR Element 4.0 Chassis. It was a nasty day, but I don't often get to pick the perfect weather day. As you will see from the velocities below, the jump in velocity from 91 to 92 seems to be misleading. Especially since they were identical. I am assuming the extremely high humidity had a big role in all of the velocities deviations. I plan on doing a 3 shots group/velocity test with BM 91, 92, 93 this weekend to verify. The good news is this rifle is very accurate with several different load combinations. Good times. 11/15/23 59 degrees 98% Humidity Cloudy NNE 6-10 Target at 100 yards IMR4198 70 gn: 2670, 2736 72 gn: 2757, 2739 Benchmark: 88 gn: 2807, 2834 89 gn: 2898, 2954 90 gn: 2929, 2908 91 gn: 2925, 2965 92 gn: 3044, 3044 Attachments:

Any idea on pressure? Id like to try benchmark in my Scout Conversion but no idea on what the pressure looks like and what a max load is with a 240/250 grain bullet.

Benchmark has a burn rate that tends to work well with the 300 grain bullets with an 86-92 grain charge. It doesn’t work well with lighter bullet weights due to burn rate. The pressure that needs to be generated in order to get a clean burn means it doesn’t work as well with even 275 grain bullets in the heavier barrel shank bolt guns. Long story short, due to the pressure needed for a clean burn, it’s not a good powder for the .45 break actions and their thinner barrels.
