Can a .45 cal Encore muzzleloader barrel use smokeless if the proper breech plug is installed? As recommended, read that post for details. I have an Encore Pro Hunter Muzzleloader. I am not a hand loader, so I don't have the familiarity with pressure curves and such. I considered a couple options. I ended up buying a encore build from Jeff. The only thing i had to add was the action which I pulled from my 50 cal Encore Pro Hunter Muzzy and a scope. I found this route the best for me. First, it came with a load recommendation from Jeff that groups quite well with a 275 gr Pittman at around 2500 fps. It is devastating on deer. It is a 300 yard gun. Had I tried to go another route, first, I would have a safety issue with my inexperience trying to develop a load. Second, I'm sure whatever load combination I ended up with would have pushed the same grain bullet at a much lower velocity. The safety margin I would have needed would have been much greater than an experienced custom gun builder simply because when I'm not positive, better safe than sorry. Someone with the experience with this stuff can maximize performance and still have a sufficient safety margin. Others may make different choices. I'm simply passing on my personal experience as food for thought.
