Got my converted CVA in last week. Just like others, first 6” are tight then it’s a hot dog down the hallway. Recommended load is 65gr of 4198 with a veggie wad and 275. I shot about 12 rounds to foul the barrel and get somewhat centered on the election sign. Gun shooting so bad it took forever to get on the sign. Pictured is 3 rounds with the recommended load. What can I do next, have a 4k guided whitetail hunt in the Midwest 1 month from now. Gotta get it shooting decent for the hunt. No idea how to post a pic, but the “group” was about 7 inches.

Sideshow gave a good explanation what to do about your problem in the thread "CVA Scout – Lap the Barrel or Shoot Sabots".

I lap all factory production barrels . Every Single One .
My method was given to me by a Vietnam Gunnery that took care of the snipers rifles . There may be better methods but this has worked for me nicely for at least 35 years . White ultra fine scotchbrite wraped once and butted together around a bore brush with some light oil . You must be able to Feel what is going on in that barrel !!! ITS GOING TO BE TIGHT , it Must be !!!
If you are Not that type of guy Hire this done !!!
Here is a rough overview . First smooth out the entire barrel with the scotchbrite covered brush . When its just smoothed up it just glides smoothly with no snags . Dont over do this as this IS your baseline . Put on a NEW BRONZE BRUSH NOW AND RE-WRAP THE SCOTCHBRIGHT before going ANY further . Going in from the breech you Will Feel your choked area as you bump up against it . This area to the muzzle is Now All you will work . Im tempted to say use the light grey scotchbrite from this point forward BUT it cuts Much Faster than the White ultra fine 1500 equivelant . How this turns out is On You . Your Ability to Feel whats going on and Your Judgement of that !!! This is No Time to Be Distracted . With very very short bumps up against that choke keep doing that until you feel it give away before going a hair further into that choke . This is repeated over and over again till you Finally reach the muzzle . Its kinda like working a putty knife very slowly with little bumps into the gasket to remove it perfectly clean the first time doing that . No going back to do it again !!! . When you are done the entire bore will have Exactly the same tension and perfectly smooth feel when its Done Right . Done Right is entirely Up To You !!!
Properly done it will shoot lights out great . Far easier to clean and smooth as glass to load . Lands AND Grooves are slick as a whistle . Any small blending needed use the White just until smooth No More .
Good Luck !!!

1) who did the conversion? I assume it’s a Hank’s but please specify. 2) There are also going to be questions regarding optics, mounts/rings, etc. Here I also assume that since your ponying up 4K for a hunt, you are competent in setting up and zeroing optics. The reason that I mentioned optics, etc. is that they are a mechanical part that does fail more frequently than these SML of reputable builders. 3) I have experienced issues with the forend on TC Encores. Too much or not enough of this or that can have negative effects on accuracy.
Easy for me to say, but don’t be too discouraged too quick. There should be a lot of info from men who really know these SMLs that will provide much needed assistance. Good luck on your hunt.

It’s a Hank conversion. This is my test scope. It’s a heavy duty tactical scope that I have done load work up with for 10 or more guns including 35 Whelen and 338 Weatherby. It’s mounted in night force rings. I’m shooting from 57-61 in .5gr increments now and have nothing under 3”.

When I got my TC Encore and it was jumping around, it was due to a QR ring lock getting bumped. Once I tightened that and sighted back in, it was spot on and very consistent. Of course, it is not a factory barrel.

I have shot close to 18 of these CVA's (CVA SCOUTS V2) if this is what our speaking of. As mention, insure base is on tightly, rings pushed forward and tighten up and of course the rings need your attention as I am sure you already know. Make sure the forarm (SNAPS) on firmly, it is adjustable. Next I would MAKE SURE the breech plug is in good and tight, found one loose the other day and it was a scatter gun, retighten and it went back to shooting. Now for the bullet side of it as I have mentioned on other post I size my bullets with a slight snug fit at the muzzle, and a loose push down the tube to rest on the powder charge with a WOOL WAD in between. As I shoot as you mentioned the barrel will foul out and the bullet will be alittle tighter. there are many here that can help you with advice better than I, but the items I have list are things that I have found ,and what I have done with those here in my area that I have set up. Question, have you shot it without a wad?

It seemed like the gun wanted to shoot at 59-60 grains. I also noticed that at the end of the test everything was shooting tighter. I went back home loaded two more at 59 and 2 more at 60. Both two shots were touching and the poi didn’t change for all four shots. I am going to load at 59.5 gr and call it done. It seemed after 20 or so rounds the barrel fouled in and the bullet was less loose down the hallway. As soon as that happened all loads tightened up. I’ll just name her Monika and keep her dirty.
