Having a hard time finding a thin wall 1/2" socket. I tried a 3/8 drive craftsman 1/2" socket to get the HIS plug out. Any suggestions?

1/4 drive for sure. Had trouble on the DIS as well. Ended up buying a dedicated ratchet and socket to keep in my muzzleloading fanny pack. Not all 1/4 will work. I ended up paying up and buying an individual snap on socket as it was the thinnest wall socket I could find.

Having a hard time finding a thin wall 1/2" socket. I tried a 3/8 drive craftsman 1/2" socket to get the HIS plug out. Any suggestions? I had the same issue with wall thickness. I've got a Hankins build on an Encore frame. Most sockets won't fit in. I realized that the breach plug removal tool from my original Encore muzzleloader works great and it tears down small for easy transport. I bought another for my smokeless. link

Another thought....For a similar application, a machinist turned a socket down for me.

I never thought about the difference in 1/4 drive vs 3/8. That worked, much appreciated guys!

Ace hardware Lowe’s Sell 1/4” drive craftsman sockets They work fine Perhaps it is gun dependent. I bought a deep socket 1/4" drive craftsman socket from Lowes. It would not go into my Hankins Encore build. I'm good with the TC plug wrenches that I have and they are great for transport, but I tried the craftsman to have one on my work bench but it didn't work.

I have found that some of the cheap/china 1/4 drive sockets fit where the good ones won't. They don't have to handle much torque but just a snug mating to the barrel shoulder.
