Can anyone recommend a non-lead bullet to shoot out of a .45 cal CVA scout conversion? I am going to hunt in a special hunt that requires no tox bulltets. Personally I think it’s ridiculous but there are some huge bucks in the hunt area.

275 Barnes xpb if you can find them. They will require a wad.

What would be the process of annealinga Barnes, and can you smooth form a copper bullet?

I didn't aneal, mine yes they were smooth size light knurl, 53gr 4227 with a wool wad. Under moa @ 2450ish fps mv. The Barnes did not need to be sized in my scout I chose to slightly undersize then knurl and not resize. They push down a bit harder than jacketed bullets.

How did they perform on deer at that velocity?

Pass through on all but one deer where impact was front of shoulder quartering hard to and lodged under hide offside hind quarter. Some were drt but not all.

250 grain Barnes flat base TEZ shoot well out of my CVA Apex conversions. No sizing required for my barrels, just a knurl and a veggie wad.

I have been using the Barnes 250 gr TEZs since 2011. While not a long-range bullet due to the low BC, for my deer hunting from 30 to 150 yards they meet my needs. Sub Moa using a dry wool wad.
