Recently, there has been some chatter about using smokeless powder in a black powder barrel. Now I really don't want to get into weather you can or can't do this. The real answer to the question is (YES) you can. Now the problem here is telling people that don't know all the details that you can use smokeless in a black powder barrel and they go out and load their grand dads hammer gun with a #11 cap and a healthy dose of smokeless powder and the next thing they know their missing a couple fingers, or worse an eye ball, or even worse than that, they get killed in the explosion.
Some of today’s modern black powder rifle barrels are built using the exact same steel as center fire barrels. The problem here is we don't know for sure which ones are and which ones are not. So as a safety factor we say, "DO NOT SHOOT SMOKELESS POWDERS IN A BLACK POWDER BARREL" We say this to protect those individuals that lack the common since to not shoot smokeless powder in, like I said, there grand dads old muzzle loader.
Now I have no problem with you (or anyone else) that wants to shoot smokeless powder in their black powder barrels. You are ultimately the one that is taking the risk and if something goes wrong it is on you and you alone, however, you cannot come on this board and tell people that it is safe to shoot smokeless powder in black powder barrels.
We do have an unwritten rule here: The subject of using smokeless powder in black powder barrels is not allowed, so everyone remember this and please let me know via a PM that someone is advocating that this is ok. I will either remove the post, delete the thread completely and or message the user and tell them this is not permitted.
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE POST TO PROBARDS, AS THEY REALLY DON'T CARE AND THEIR WAY OF FIXING THE PROBLEM IS TO JUST GET RIDE OF THE MESSAGE BOARD COMPLETELY. Since our beginning there have been 26 reported posts, most of them are by the same two people that report post they don't agree with, so to you few guys, please notify me instead of ProBoards.
And on a side note: You all know how I feel about "FREEDOM OF SPEACH" Everyone has the right to express themselves and say what they believe, until it possibly can put someone at risk of injury or death. I do not want to have to remove anyone’s post, but if they present a possibility that someone could mis-read the information and get hurt, I will remove the post or correct it myself. Other ways to have your post removed are if you start name calling or use profanity. This is just cause for post removal and possible banning from our great message board. Now I have not seen much of this misbehavior, this is just a reminder to all.
We (IMO) have the best message board on the internet to talk about smokeless muzzle loaders, We have some great builders here, we have some sharp minds that keep innovating and developing loads and new ideas to help make these rifles what they are today, so please, everyone enjoy this message board and lets continue to enjoy this sport of muzzle loading safely and for many more years to come.
So, let’s sum this up one more time.
IF YOU SHOOT SMOKELESS POWDER IN YOUR BLACK POWDER BARREL, I DON'T CARE, I HOPE IT WORKS GOOD FOR YOU, BUT PLEASE DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT, WRITE ABOUT IT ON THIS BOARD, OR POST ANY KIND OF LOAD DATA. THIS IS FOR THE PROTECTION OF EVERYONE HERE.
