The below is testing I did at some really long ranges. I was on my last box of 50 of the older Version 1 and Kyle was sold out - so I bought some of the new Version 2 bullets. The version 2 have a longer aluminum tip and are .035 longer than the old bullets. See Kyle’s homepage for more info. Kyle designed these bullets with more weight rearward to help flight at extreme ranges- much like a Match hollow point round in my opinion. Maybe Kyle can chime in to give facts ?
After measuring everything on the V-1 and comparing to V-2 my initial thoughts were I was going to loose a little BC on the V-2. Bearing surface is .035 longer on the V2 and the secant ogive is bigger in diameter in comparable increments.
After testing at long range I was wrong and Kyle’s design is flat amazing !
V-2 improvements over the V-1
At 1135 yards .2 less mils (each .1 is .36 moa)
At 1350 yards. .3 less mils
At 1415 yards. .4 less mils
At 1735 yards. .5 less mils NEW personal RECORD !
I couldn’t shoot at my normal 1630 yards which was my max limit with the V-1 so i went for 1735 using the same program as the old V-2 bullets. 1735 was not possible with past testing on the older bullets but 1630 was as long as conditions were perfect.
1735 is my new record and I was able to keep impacts .2 mils on my up/downs so 3/4 moa and my speeds had an extreme of 29 fps so it can get better.
3007/3036/3026. 3007 was my lower hit.
Barrel was getting hot sitting out in the sun and 16 rounds in a row produce heat.. I used 1 sighter for each distance and adjusted for corrections. The closer distances my speeds were single digit and impacts were amazing.
My new stepped BC program increased .100 on the slower speeds which is significant. I use stepped G1 Bc info and customize it to fit actual proven test data. The new program also shows subsonic speeds right at 1 mile (1760 yards) so my testing might be its max limit but I don’t think so.
The V-2 is the real deal !
Having more weight rearward makes this bullet (hopefully) a 1 mile round at 3020 fps
Elevation 5950 temp 67 degrees.
Brux .408 barrel 1-14 twist 27.5” long
Direct ignition WLRM primers powder chamber
Varget powder.( flat primers) proceed carefully.
The bullet is holding .400 moa at 100 yards with 5 of 6 shots at .250 moa. If kept cool it keeps dingle digit extreme speeds.
I’m super happy !
I know it’s not 1 mile (25 yards short) but it shot great today ! Also - I only shot 4 shots each at the above distances. I basically had zero wind at the closer targets (1130 yards)and then the wind ended up 3-8 mph at 1735 yards. Bullet flight that’s only good in zero wind isn’t good enough when it can’t shoot well in the wind JMO
Can I repeat this ? I’ll let you know.
Thanks for the new design Kyle !
