BTW, anyone interested, Killough's just got in a s--t load of Black Box match ammo in various lots. I ordered two boxes each of four different lots. As soon as I get it, I will head to the range early in the morning and test them at 100 yards along with recording velocities and ES's while shooting five shot groups. ES and group size will determine if I buy more of a particular lot. Killough lists how many boxes they have in stock for all the lot numbers. I always make sure I pick lots with several hundred boxes in stock.

I better check and see if they have anything close to what I have and maybe I’ll get luck and find another good lot?

I have an old lot of match marked 1062 fps. Out of my 21" Lilja barrel it clocks an average of 1097. (I know they test with longer barrels) However, I more recently bought a different lot marked 1062 fps and it shot an average of 1106 fps. The ES on the new lot was much larger (15fps vs. 20fps)and consequently they groups----especially from 100 yards out to 200 showed a marked difference in size, which was mostly vertical......Did they use a different chronograph? Different barrel? I can understand the ES difference (bullet, powder, brass, machine) but velocity being some 10 fps faster? When your dealing with sonic vs. sub-sonic, 10 fps can be critical. I also made sure I got some lots that were made on the same machine that produced my good lot of 1062.....of course that lot is two years old so who knows? Its an interesting game and another rabbit hole like the SML's!

Here is what I know, I’ve been to 2 different test center with the same gun. I’ve bought cases of ammo that they says shoots good in my gun, had it shipped to the house and I tested it at 50 yards and it shoots nothing like it did in the tunnels. Hmmmm every frustrating.
So, my shooting partner says that he had great luck with 1073 speed off of machine #4. I found 1073 off of machine #2. I tested both lots on the same day, same tuner settings and the same weather conditions at 50 yards. The lot I found shot better than his did. It all comes down to find what your gun likes and buy as much as you can of the same lot number.
What do I do with the ammo that my gun doesn’t like? I use it to trade with other guys with different lot numbers and let the test begin all over agin. I will sell it off to other shooting competitors for what I paid for it. Sooner or later it all gone and the fun starts all over again.
It’s all about testing lots of ammo in your gun. I personally have 4 guns I test my ammo in before it goes up for sale. Sometimes I get lucky and it shoots in one and if I really get lucky it will shoot in another.

Since I'm not shooting in formal competition or money matches, it's not that big a deal..just frustrating....that you have to take what you get right out of the box. At least with CF or ML, you can taylor your components to get the results you want. I will say, that testing at 100 yards (under ideal conditions) will show the good, the bad and the ugly, real quick!
