Does anybody have a good starting and stopping load using reloder7 with a 225gr bullet in a sabot? The gun is a cva scout 45/70 conversion with a Hankins DI plug. I have looked at some pressure traces but all were with 209 plugs. Is reloder7 safe to reduce by 10% going from a 209 load to DI? Thanks

60gr is a good place to start with a 225gr in a sabot. 63gr was the sweet spot for my old SavPac 45 with a 200gr.

With my old Remmy 700ML .45 cal. Pac Nor, my load with the 195 Barnes with Reloader 7 at 71 grains powder and a Fed. 209A primer was right @ 2800fps. Extremely accurate and never blew a Sabot.

Reloader 7 is the most sabot friendly powder I ever used when using sabots. You should be able to load 60-65gr, maybe more with that light of bullet, of reloader 7 with no issues with DI. Harvester light blue sabots would be my choice. Dennis can you explain what you mean by most sabot friendly powder. For example why would Reloader 7 be better than 4198 when shooting sabots? Also what is your favorite bullet when shooting sabots out of the CVA Scout?

60gr is a good place to start with a 225gr in a sabot. 63gr was the sweet spot for my old SavPac 45 with a 200gr. Do you remember what speeds you were getting? About 2650-2700fps with a 200gr. 27" Pacnor 1-22 and 209 plug. I tell you though, i doubt using a heavier bullet even a 240gr would loose any speed vs the 200gr bullet. Both Re7 and 4198 dont make squat for peak pressure with a 200gr sabot. Several guys on the boards have reported getting as much or more fps when they went from the 200gr SST to something like a 240gr Fury using the same amount of powder.
As mentioned its super sabot friendly too. Its a very easy powder to use for a lot of 45 and 50cal sabot applications. Easy to ignite and fairly temp stable. Its just a bit dirty compared to single base powders. Not a fan of it for sabotless 45 vs 4198 or N120.

Thanks for the info. I’m just trying to find a lighter recoiling load for kids that still has a little speed. If there is such a thing?

32 grains N110 with the harvester light blue and a 200 grain bullet. When I went up to 35 grains I needed a wool wad under to protect the sabot. Both loads in my 45 pacnor 10MLII gr,eat accuracy with very little recoil and 2500ish speed.

I have no powder chamber though. 50gr of 4198 and a 275gr bullet had a mv of 2200 fps. 250gr bullet and 30 gr of 4227 is right at 1800 fps.

As you go up in grains you may need to add a Eastern Maine wool wad to protect the sabot. I usually stay around 33 to 35gr. Also l put a light knurl on the bullet.

Another super sabot friendly powder and easy to ignite is imr4759. It’s much cleaner burning than reloader 7. If you have a chamber 42gr of imr4759 should take up the same space of 56gr imr4198.

As far as I know, 4759 was discontinued around 2019.

They did, I just thought I would share my information for those that have a supply of it like me. They stopped making it once before and started making it again due to popular demand. let’s hope they do it again.
