Been searching for about an hour for some SML powder bullet combos with no results. I have a 50 cal brux 1-20", mesa summit, with HIS system.
I've used 4198 with 45 cals. But this is the first 50 I've messed with. I can get whatever bullets but want to go do some test firing. I was thinking 72gr with some 250-300 gr bullets.

I ended up using the fury universal fit 285g in my 50, my barrel ain't no brux but it went from @1.5" groups down to cloverleaf size. I use 5744 powder cuz I was having issues getting 4198 to ignite before I went to the fury's

Barrel length can make quite a difference in choosing an optimal powder. 5744 will certainly ignite well, but burns quickly and generates fairly slow velocities.
Everything taken into consideration, VV110 seems to have the best of everything combined - speed, ignitability, cleanliness, temperature insensitivity, ES and accuracy.

I’ve shot plenty of a5744 but after I tried imr 4759 in a 50cal I never went back. Reloader7 was a good powder in a 50cal too. I used 38 to 44gr with a 250 or 300gr bullet with the imr4749 and 62gr of reloader 7 with a 300gr bullet. I’ve also used h or the imr version of 4198 with my cast .458 lee mold 405 gr flat base bullet sized .454 with the harvester black crush rib sabot or full sized with the orange crush rib harvester or the mmp. All loads shot excellent groups.

A .002 thou knurl for a sabot would give you some BC to go along with that ferocious punch . Tested in a 18 twist Brux 45 they were pretty accurate with bh209 and no load development or even a wad !!! Might be worth testing in your 50 ?? I cant imagine what they wouldnt mow down with authority !!!

Back in my 50 cal days I ran 63 grn of Reloder 7 and 60 grn of Vit N120 and the 300 grn Barnes Original...they both shot very well with the N120 edging out the Reloder 7 and I went with the N120...it always amazed me that I could shoot 3 inch groups at 300 yards with the BO brick....lol...I stacked up a pile of deer with that combo...

Hey everyone, i know this is older, but I came across this thread here about .50 smokeless loads. For those loads of H4198 (which is what im using), are these loads that are used with bullet to bore or using sabbot or does that make any difference? My uncle and i are making the switch for our Factory Savage ML2 to the Fury .50 bullets, bullet to bore. Were currently shooting the 275g parker bullets with 67g of H4198. Just curious if its going to make a difference switching to bullet to bore now, fury bullets using 67g of 4198 or using something in the balllpark of 60-70g. Dont know if we should drop the load a bit or continue to use that same setup. I hear nothing but good things about Fury bullets and Dennis seems to stand by them. Thanks eveyrone!
