I would like to find a reasonably priced 22 ammo that should shoot accurately. Not looking for competition ammunition just something to get more trigger time this summer that will tell me if I’m doing my part. I own a custom built 10/22 target gun. Once price gets over 20 cents a round it feels like I should just be shooting my AR.

22 ammo for plinking can be found just about any where that sells ammo. Here in Ohio, I’ve seen a good selection of ammo setting on the selves. Of course a 22 is about like buying your mother cloths, if you buy enough cloths, sooner than later you’ll find something she likes. When you do find something that shoot good, buy everything you can of the same lot number. I just bought another case (10,000 rounds) from Lapua test center in Marengo, Ohio after I had my 40X tested. It’s about the only way I know how to buy Lapua in larger quantities.

This is a good question to ask over at rimfirecentral.com They have several different topics for the 10/22 as well as topics for ammunition....a lot of rimfire knowledge. My grandson got better groups one day with his stock 10/22 than a couple guys shooting their AR's, but I have little knowledge of their shooting abilities. He was using CCI Blazer ammo. This, coming from a hunter/plinker who will never do any competitions, I am very happy with either the Blazers or CCI Mini-Mags. If they are accurate enough for 50yd minute of rabbit or squirrel head, starling or sparrow, I am happy.

Both SK and Eley have .22 ammo designed and rated specifically for the semi-auto rifles. SK semi-auto shoots very well out of my CZ 457. Have not yet tried Eley's semi-auto as I came into some reasonably priced Eley match. What I find (I chronograph {LabRadar}) with the lower tier ammo (anything cheaper than Eley match and Lapua Center-X) is the ES's get much further apart AND, there are more "flyers" when you shoot a group; many attributed to that "odd" velocity shot. ES gets critical with these rimfires especially when you stretch out the distance to 100 yards and beyond. What you can get away with (cheaper ammo) shooting steel targets (where the bullet only has to hit somewhere on the surface), you cannot get away with shooting for group or at tiny bullseye's as in ARA competition.

They group MUCH better than the 40gr RN bullets. Sorry!

I have had good luck in past with Winchester Dynapoint and CCI Mini Mag. Had a couple lots of Dynapoint that were amazing. Thanks for all the responses.
