Well my experience thus far is that when it gets below a positive 10 degrees Fahrenheit the sending of pictures becomes erratic. At sustained-20 the cameras will shut down and it depletes the battery pretty quick even with the solar panels.

That is cold Joel. But it seems you have discovered the cold weather limit for your equipment. Electronics are not too fond of extreme temperature for sure.

Sorry they’re not doing the job for u Joel. Mine probably aren’t in a place as cold as urs ( southern Iowa) but they haven’t missed a beat. They’ve been there since late July. I did have one camera that was close enough to the river that it ended up under water and quit working. Just curious, are u running the G cameras or the J’s?

I am not complaining. I like the system this is the only down fall I have found to the system. Thought others might want to know. I am using J series cameras.

I’ve never used the J cameras only the G’s. The G cameras use D batteries instead of AA but I don’t know if that would make a difference. I would assume the solar panels are the same no matter what. Maybe those -20 degree temperatures just shut them down. That is brutal.

This was 3-4 days into a 2 week spell that didn’t get above -15 for 2 weeks. We don’t normally see that kind of cold for that kind of time. Some nights where -38. I don’t expect much to work in that kind of cold.

That’s some terrible cold. Seems like I remember u are from Minnesota. Is that correct? If so, what part. I don’t know how people ever adjust to that. I live in the mountains of TN. We can get very cold but usually rebound pretty fast. 0-10 degrees is normal but our humidity can be quite high. I’m a tree farmer so I work outside. As I’ve aged I’ve learned to hate the cold. Anything below 0 will shut me down too. Lol

BKM The cameras are set up in west central Minnesota not far from Fargo ND. That’s the area I grew up in. I actually prefer the winter over summer. I like to say I can always put more clothing on I can only take so many off. Getting the appropriate clothing helps quite a bit dealing with the cold. I will say the older I get the less I like getting cold. Glad clothing keeps getting better and better.

Well the last week I have not been getting pictures. Today it got above 10 degrees and the photos started pouring in.

They were pictures of all but 2 days during the 10 day cold spell. I think those days never got above -20 it was just too cold.
Would I like them to work ALL the time yes. I am realistic on my expectations. I am happy with them. We usually don’t see this much bitter cold. I just want those looking into these cameras have more information than I did. We would buy them again.

That is strange. I’ve never heard of any cellular cameras doing that before. It seems like I remember on some of my cameras ( not sure which manufacture) a temperature setting. I’ll need to brush up on the directions. We all know it takes more power in the cold temps though. Good information. Thanks Joel

We had SpyPoints a couple years ago bought 4 within a mont in the summer we were down to 1 camera that one lasted just over a year. Absolutely couldn’t get a hold of customer service. That one completely shut off at around 10 degrees.
Some of the CudeBack cameras have lost there time in these cold spells
