In todays heavy gun match I shot along side two 300wsm heavy guns my buddy was shooting the 215gr Berger and the other guy the 210VLD I was shooting a 105gr JLK when we had a crosswind component things were pretty equal we traded bullseyes for bullseyes but at the magic one minute mark the wind changed to a head wind tail wind and that's were you can see the benefit of a heavier 215gr bullet over the little 105gr bullet. At 30 seconds and at 15 seconds things were really squirrely on our last sighter shot my buddy was out on the edge of the 9 ring and I was about halfway in the 9 so I held on the right corner of the patch he said he clicked over to the center. He ended up shooting a 6.8 inch group I shot a 8.1 I had all vertical in my group and he had a much more rounded group. He won the relay for group there were four 8 inch groups besides mine and some in the double digits'
So when shooting in a crosswind both calibers are pretty close on handling that type of condition but when it comes to a head win the big heavy bullet has a advantage which makes sense. I built his 300wsm so It wasn't all bad because we both work really hard at our load development and testing both guns have shot 3 inch groups in practice but you need near perfect conditions to get down into those small numbers it doesn't happen ever day to be sure.
I won my relay on Saturday I used my Dasher in light gun to shoot a 5.8 inch group 7 shots in the 10X ring and three just out side to give me a 97 score . I then used my 300wsm in the shoot off I took third place I don't want to put anymore rounds through this Dasher than I have to it is really shooting well and has been rechambered once.
