I fixed my grandson up with a 20 in barreled SML. I wanted a load similar to a .44 mag. I set up the rifle with a 250 gr XTP, 28 grains of 4759, harvester sabot, and a CCI 209M primer. His hunting set up is 40 or 50 yard shots. Any body hazard a guess at what the velocity of this load might be? It is plenty accurate and he isn't bothered by the recoil.

I take it that your talking about a 50cal because you said a 250gr xtp in a sabot. Ive shot the Rainier 335gr with a wool wad and 28gr of 5744 in a 26in barrel and it got me in the 1300 fps range. I know your barrel is shorter but your bullet is lighter so I think your in 44mag territory.
