I'm just getting started reloading rifle cartridges and have been compiling data from manuals, forums, friends etc. I'm interested in accuracy first and foremost and obviously velocity comes into play. I've noticed that a lot not all, factory loads advertise some scorching velocities in comparison to information i've collected. Is it that these companies are privy to propellants we cant buy? I'm obviously going to start low and work up and will be loading .308 cartridges. Information for this cartridge is infinite and have several starting points for several powders and bullets if I can find em?

Some powder and bullet combos are “just right” for cartridge. When looking at a max charge if I can get 3 loads manuals to fairly closely agree on max load I feel pretty comfortable working up to that load. By manuals I mean any information put out by component manufacturers. I am always grabbing the powder company pamphlets. Now with internet access it makes it even easier. Most bullet company manuals have recommended powder for certain bullets. Sierra has recommended Target and Hunting loads.

Ok, starting to find components. The powders I have are 4064,4895,3031,and 4320. the bullets are Swift A-frames165's, Hornady innerlocks 165's, and NoslerBT's165 gr. I cant steel anything good in 150's! My knew question would be witch one for deer? My understanding is A-frames are real hearty and probably better for elk but I wasnt in a place to choose as the price was wright. I've heard good things about the other two bullets but don't want to waste a bunch of stuff chasing the wrong rainbow! Thanks again! Dave
