I recently purchased a JP Saure 101 in .308 . This will be the first bottleneck cartridge i will personally be reloading for. I've loaded lots of straight walled auto pistol cartridges so im not completely ignorant. This rifle will be used for deer mainly so i'm looking at Nosler partitions or Swift A-frames, no need for trophy bonded sabre tooth tiger bullets. Kinda looking for an accurate dependable load or loads or even any pointers pertaining to .308. Whoops! O lmost forgot, where I hunt my max range is 300 yds and rifle will be topped with a leupy vx5 HD with fire dot. Lookin forward to any thoughts or constructive criticisms. thanks! Dave

165 Accubond is where I’d probably start I am assuming you’re shooting whitetails.

Had several 308 rifles. The 308 is a very accurate round and you should find it easy to tune. Would stay in the 150 to 165 gr bullet weight for the 308 especially for deer at the ranges your hunting. There are a ton of good powders and bullets avaible. H4895 and 4064 are outstanding in the 308. I would stay with the lighter constructed bullets since your deer hunting. The accubond would be a good choice but I like the ballistic tip much better for deer.
So have fun picking out some different loads and bullet combinations.

Thanks guys! The reason I asked about the reloading info on this forum instead the reloading forum is that the twist in this rifle is 1-11. My brothers .308 is 1-10 and my nephews is 1-12. I was kinda hopeing somebody else had a Saure in .308 but no biggy. 1-11 is fine for what i'm doing and I have a knew Sierra manual on the way. thanks again! Dave.

A twist rate of 1-11 is perfectly fine for a 30 caliber rifle. Especially with bullets up to 180grs. I know of many 1000 yrd shooters that use a 11 twist barrel and shoot 210gr Berger bullets with great accuracy from a 300wsm. You won't have ant trouble with your 308win.

Agree that Ballistic Tips are a good starting point. Have shot a ton of deer with them. Better terminal performance on deer-sized game than more stoutly constructed bullets (Partitions, etc). Accubonds are just the bonded version. I've had good luck with Varget powder in the 308, but plenty of other options will work.

I shoot a 30-06 with 150 SSTs at 2800fps. I have had better luck with this load than any other I have tried for NC whitetail where our bucks average 120-145 lbs and does are 85-120. Since you are a "damn yankee" I assume you are in the South. Your 308 should come in about the same numbers. I tried the 165 GameKings and they all passed through with much smaller holes and longer tracking. The 150 SST get pass through 80-90% of the time and most are DRT. I hunt in thick places here in NC with cutovers always near where the deer most of the time bed and long tracking jobs I do not like.

Nope! Not in the south although I wish was. I'm in the communist run state of ZOO york! Bucks in my area tend to run 165-200 lbs. and tend to be stubborn on the whole DRT thing. Now, to find ammo and components? thanks again guys!

you have been great advice above- i might add as the .308 is a relative easy cartridge to load for.
But- be Advised Seating depth can be critical in pressures especially on the upper end of the powder/bullet combo.
as always start low,use chrono wisely especially in warmer loads with heavier bullets-there is a great difference in say a load @ book 2.800 vs. 2.950 depending on chamber lengths in this case.
