Kicking around the idea of having jeff do me a barrel for an encore I already have the action I have one of jeffs bolt guns that weighs 13.25 lbs scoped with no muzzle break. Recoil is not bad. MY question is with max loads with the break gun i.e. 60 grains of 4198 and a 275 b.e. how does the recoil compare? thanks Kevin

Kevin..
Shooting these break actions from a bench and sand bags is pretty rough at max loads, but under hunting conditions you hardly know they went off.., I shot one of my deer this year with my apex while standing up in a tree and I never noticed the recoil or noise.
Some others should chime in and see what they say.

Only time I notice the recoil hunting is when get too excited hunting big game and I hug the stock too much and then get scope eyed or a knot on my forehead. Happened this year with a 45/70 on my buck and when I shot a big bear with a hot load in my BLR 358.

I agree with Hank. I'm shooting an Encore 20" Katahdin 45/70 barrel conversion with standard Savage plug. At the bench it can be a little lively - but I'm probably more recoil sensitive than some. However, get in the woods with a nice deer in front of you - and you know how that is - no recoil at all! Still loud though. I slide down a pair of muffs even in the woods. Keep them on my head like a pair of antlers when hunting from the treestand. I have been loading down to 50 grains of H4198 with Harvester smooth blue sabot and Hornady .40 cal 200 grain XTP and getting just under 2200 fps, and 1850 fps at 45 grains of powder. Both shoot well, less recoil and dead deer every time where we hunt - usually 100 yards or less. Also, I have a Nikon Omega 1.65x5 power scope with constant 5" of eye relief. That helps a lot too with not creeping up to close to it and getting whacked!

Kevin , I have a 24 bergerra on an encore , and yes on the bench 56 gr of 4198 and a 275 will get your attention i did tame it down with 54 grn 4198 and a 225 ftx or a 250 BE . Yhis way i can sit on bench and kill paper with out the recoil. havent killed a deer yet but one hole groups at 100 im pretty confident

Have a Encore 45/70 conversion. 28" Bullberry Bull barrel. Hankins Ignition. Shoot 55.6 grains of 4198 with a 275 BE bullet. Same as Jeff. Never noticed the recoil or noise shooting 3 deer this time with it. I was expecting "elephant gun" recoil the first time I shot it, but nothing even close. Deer taken at 91, 151, and 180 yards. Damage to heart-lung area was brutal with those bullets. 35 yards was the farthest any of those deer ran. Made me a believer. Couldn't be happier with Jeff's work. It is a deer killing machine!

Any reason to not brake one these guns? That should take the bench bite out of them!

The Encore weighs 10.2 lbs with Scope, steel bases and rings. I hunt from 16' Tri-pod. No problems with it climbing or moving it around to shoot. Weight and length tames the recoil and muzzle jump. Got some pics, but ain't got enough sense to post yet! LOL Thumper added pics of encore per you request. (if it worked). It's a plain Jane model Encore on the outide. Ramped up Deer Killing Machine Inside. LOL Thumper
