Hi folks, I received my converted 45-70 from Jeff this past October and I'm getting my stuff together to be able to try it out real soon. I was planning on using lmrp in the modules but I recently watched one of Jeff's videos where he mentioned using just lrp in the apex because of the smaller powder charge. I'm wondering if there is a down side to using magnum primers all the time? My thinking is the more fire the better, but I'm now concerned about the extra force of the primer pushing the charge forward ahead of the burning powder? I know it can happen in bp rifles using excessively hot primers but what about with smokeless?? And if so Can it create dangerous spikes in pressure due to the extra space created behind the powder charge???
Oh, and congrats on your new message board! I was Acekicker on the other one and hadn't checked in in a while so I was unaware of all the changes. Glad to see all those whom I have great respect for their opinions on this board!

Don't believe you will ever have issue with lrmp unless you use a extremely loose fitting bullet. Biggest concern would if have a misfire be sure to reseat bullet on powder. I believe this issue could be greater concern with209 magnum systems.

Nothing to worry about using mag primers I use them in most all my hand loads even with triple seven 45/70 loads. Most likely the hotter flame will get the powder ignited before its moved forward and even if it doesn't the empty space will be filled with hot gas and pressure so its not the same as a bore obstruction.
You can use regular LRP's if you want to when shooting 55-60 grains of powder, or you can use LRMP is you think you might need that little extra heat..
