I have a new CVA Apex 45-70 on the way and want to have it converted to a SML. What are my options for having the work done and what is everyone's recommendation. Plan to shoot mostly Barnes 195's and SST 200's in blue sabots with IMR or H4198 for deer.

Your CVA obviously has a Bergera barrel , I have a same barrel on an Encore ,I shoot sabot less Hornady 225 or Parker 250 BE , both shoot 1/2 groups at 100 on the bench both over 54 gr of h 4198 HIS ignition sys. I do size them to .450.5 for ease of loading .The Parker loads ok with out sizing but is easier and just as accurate sized . GOOD luck Heres a picture of a 54 grn 4198 with a parker 250 be sized ...@100 yrds Attachments:

I don't think you will go wrong with either a 209 system or Jeff's LRMP module system. If you have large fingers and struggle with a bare 209 primer then there might be a good advantage to Jeff's module system. I know Jeff developed a 209 module as well but not sure if it was for the break open guns. Give Jeff a call an discuss with him.

I actually shot an email to Hankins Custom Rifle as I don't see anything on their site regarding doing the conversion but have not heard back yet.

I have shipped a barrel to Jeff to add his breech plug. That is the only way I was even considering on my conversion. Jeff does very nice work, and his primer modules are very user friendly. I know that on the Apex conversions if Jeff does it then you can still use the factory extractor to removed his primer module. I have a centerfire that Jeff built and the primer modules seal 100%.

I wasn't able to check my email today and I've left the shop for the day. If you want to give me a call on the cell phone I should be able to chat with you about your conversion.. Thanks. Jeff.

I just got a apex from jeff. With my limited shooting time, it shoots a raged hole at 50 yards with 275 be sized.

I think he is referring to the Hornady .452 225 grain FTX 45 Long Colt bullet.

I've seen a couple times that you developed your 209 module? I would like some info. on them? Are they available at this time etc? is the head spacing the same as the LMRP module, what plug do you use?
