Kinda curious if anyone plants food plots and how your experiences have been with them.
This year because of the rain we had significant portions of crop land that didn't get planted, including ALL of one of the properties I hunt. Went in yesterday and after some light ground work planted a few acres with whitetail institute no plow mix. fertiized as well. Kinda curious to see how it comes in...
I'll let you know how it progresses

I have had pretty good luck with them. The two things I have figured out for my area is 1 don’t worry about summer plots. My local farmers have that under control. I worry more now about early spring “clover” and fall and winter food. Late plated peas for first part of archery season. Turnips corn and soybeans for later in season. 2 Make sure the plot is big enough to survive HEAVY grazing.
I will be very interested in hearing about your results.

I do great with them. We plant wheat, turnips, oats, rape, and clover with great success. Hit it ahead of a rain with 13-13-13 about 6-8 weeks after it’s up and it looks great. Deer wear it out

i planted no plow last year on one of my plots and the deer crushed it. I soil test every year and keep the records. One small one in clover about 1/3 acre in the woods, one on a power line also in clover,, and a new farm this year is getting 2 acres in whitetail institute pure attraction with an overseed of clover for the spring.

I started out with Whitetail Institute then tried many other. I wish I would not have wasted my time with other products.

Right now I have all my plots planted in Frigid Forage Trophy Clover. I planted them back at the end of March. The deer have been hammering them ever since. No need to cut since the deer keep them mowed down. I sprayed with Imox back in June to keep the grasses and weeds down.

I have made out well with whitetail institute stuff. Going to use some more no plow this year on my small plot because it grew really well and germinated fast. If I redo my power line plot it will be with clover and a nurse crop of oats on top.

Glad to hear the whitetail institute plots have a good consensus. Looks like it got some rain today, so I'll check up in a week or two and see how its coming in.

I plant clover in 1plot, soybeans in another & oats and brassicas I also overseed the beans with oats& winter wheat when the beans start to yellow! I used whitetail institute for about 5years and don't have anything bad to say about them or the quality although for the last few years I have been using real world products with great success! Good luck and there no substitute for a soil test

Looks like your plot is doing just fine, and a pretty nice buck has found it.

I have close to 10-15 acres of clover/alfalfa and 5 acres of sorghum, 2.5 acres or turnips/radishes
The clover/alfalfa is a 25' wide firebrake around my CRP (Pollinator). The sorghum, turnips and radishes are in a 7.5 acres field that separates the deer from the bedding area and water source.

Was finally able to go up and check the growth of the plot. Its really coming in well! We've had a lot of rain, so I'm sure that didn't hurt anything. Just hope the deer keep hammering the beans on the next property over until it gets a little higher. They're still really green, so it should be good. This should work well for later in the season.

I usually just leave corn or beans standing when I am harvesting but i have that option. A lot of years i wish i had some greens ! But when the snow is flying and its zero they hammer the grains .
