I’m thinking about putting a barrel on my Remington 700. 7mm rem mag. The factory barrel shots ok if I keep the velocity’s slow. 140 gr 3000 to 3075. 160 gr 2850 to 2950. If I increase the velocity over that the groups open up. Tried several bullets primers and powders. Keep it slow shots good under an in. Speed it up it’s 2 to 3 in So I’m looking at a rebarrel. The purpose will be 600 yds max Want to keep a hunting rifle contour. So what kind of barrel do you recommend will stay in the 160 gr range on bullets Rifle has a PTG bolt hs precision stock trigger tech trigger

Retumbo h1000 4831. Have not tried 168s. Not really a Berger bullet fan.

140 Berger Hunting VLD shot really well in mine with Reloader 22 and 215m primers.

Yea Berger Bullett shoot great but from what I have seen they don’t perform well on game. I will try the Nosler lr. I tried some 140 accubond

The 140 Berger hammered deer in my 7 mag. Most didn't take a step. I understand your Berger comment though. My buddy had problems with the 168 hunting VLD in his 308. Shot lights out but lost a couple deer due to no blood trail. Seemed to pencil through.

I’ve shot Sierra 140gr spbt with 62.3 gr of one 4350 and Remington primer for years hammers deer and elk and shoots tiny groups out of every Remington 700 I’ve ever shot it in

If you change the barrel there are lot's of choices. On my gun I would likely go Bartlein, Rock Creek, kreiger, Brux. All are preminum barrels and all are good.

Hillbill said it! My latest build has rock creek barrel but I've got Lilia, Krieger, brux, shilen, Hart on other builds, and several of those more than one. If you choose any of the premium barrels I don't think you will go wrong. I've only seen one barrel sent back to the factory because of tooling marks when barrel was received. That's why we (me and my buddies) always bore scope barrels when received before taking them to gunsmith(fyi). Good luck and if your shooting 160 grain a 1/9 twist is all your gonna need.

Berger is apparently unaware that people hunt deer using .243 and .257 bullets.

Replace that barrel with a Brux #5 contour with a 1-8.5 or 1-9 twist and you should be able to shoot just about any bullet you want to shoot.

I shot a 6x6 bull elk last year in Colorado with a 180grberger out of a 7mm @ 365yrds and dropped it rite there.. this is the only animal I have taken with a Berger but from that experience I would use them on deer and elk without reservation

Good shot placement and any decent bullet will kill a deer. A great bullet is not going to make up for bad shot placement.

There's a big difference between the target bullet from Berger and the hunting bullet I have friends that also use the VLD hunting bullet and have more DRT then any other bullet they've used.. as I said my experience is limited but I plan to keep using them also I know they make bullets for .243
