Well I couldn't stand looking at the parts and not putting it together. I tested fired and broke in the barrel this morning with 142gr SMK and150gr SMK they both shot tiny bug holes at 100yards that was encouraging but it really is a false indicator of how the same load will shoot at 1,000 yards. Sometimes it does but most of the time it doesn't
So this evening I went to the 1K range to test the new gun out . For now I only want to see if the new 150gr SMK will shoot. I had no trouble getting 3060fps with RL 16 and also RL23 The 1-7 twist doesn't seem to generate anymore pressure than a 1-8 twist barrel and I really didn't notice anymore torque when I shot it.
So the loads I tested were all running right around 3025fps and they got on paper at 1K with 21 moa which is really flat shooting. But the down side is so far the 150gr bullet didn't group at all at 1K I plan on slowing it down to around 2900 to 2950 and see what happens the BC is .713 and I do believe that is really a good solid number.
This 150gr SMK has the same design as the 110gr 6mm and I couldn't get those to group either the other year when I tested them. If I can't get the 150gr SMK to shoot with the first box of 100 then they will not work in this barrel. These real long pointed bullets can be very touchy to tune. I can always go back to the 142gr SMK or the new 147gr ELD-M and see what they do.
It's a work in progress when it comes to 1,000 yard rifles
