No shooting report this week?...................Gun broke ...........Well, not really but sort of just temporarily!
I changed over from the Sightron to the NF 8x32 and was in the process of sighting it in. Low and behold, I forgot top put in the new (DIS) primed module?............Had taken out the used one; So what happens when you pour your powder down the bore with a big old hole in the breech plug?.............Powder on the floor, in the locking lug recesses and yes.................a piece into the trigger...........result? The trigger will not cock the bolt . Pull the action out of the stock and put some canned air to the trigger but still no go so that left me shooting Hermans new .22 rimfire at 100 yards and putting a box of shells thru my Kimber .380.
The last shot before the screw up was one I was really wanting to try out. It was a duplex with N-110 and 2015. I had shot 2015 some months ago but velocity was in the 2700 range with I believe 86 gr. so last week I upped it to 88 gr. but still not up into the upper 2800's so this week the plan was to remove 10 gr. of the 2015 and add 10 gr. of N-110 (10/78). My thought here was to not keep increasing the 2015 but use the same or less to get more velocity. So, that one shot that fired prior to my hic-cup, yielded 2929 fps with a 300 gr. XTP and the bullet hit my POA. So next week----------or maybe the week after (due to Irma being in our area on Monday and Tuesday) my plan is to drop to 9 gr. of N-110 and still keep the 78 of 2015.
OK, so got home and pulled the rifle apart and hit the trigger with some air from my compressor? Bingo! she is back to cocking just fine!
